Forums - Nintendo - Combining Wii and DSi points

With the recent change to Nintendo points and the linking to our My Nintendo accounts through both the Wii and DSi, are they going to make a way to combine and link the Nintendo points together?  I have Wii points and DSi points and they for now are still showing separate.  Does anyone know anything on this or did I miss something?

i think they said that wii and dsi points would be separate. unless they just now changed something and i didn't get the memo, it's still the same way.

come try out the computer game i've been working on for my high school senior project, titled sling ball. http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=76669&page=1

you can view a few screenshots from the game in my photo album here; http://www.vgchartz.com/photos/album.php?album=2312

yes, this is vonboy's alt account. i can't log into my original account, and i'm not sure if i will ever be able to.

There is good reason for keeping them seperate by doing this they are able to know where people are sending their money which sys.

While this is still possible there would be lag in infomation eg; they know on sale of points which sys money spent on if combined they would have to wait till point are spent as time goes by this will become less important then they may combine.

This is quite possibly the worst explanation for not having the points combined ever. It is entirely irrelevant why the person buys the points. From Nintendo's end it is all the same. Cash comes in regardless. If you want to know why people are buying them then I suggest they check the games sales the sure as hell make sure to track. This will tell them not only which system is having money spent on it (which is irrelevant) but also which games are havign money spent on them (which is extremely relevant).

The only reason I can think of to not combine the two is because they are keeping the two systems entirely seperate server side. I can think of a handful of half-baked reasons to do this, but it does make some sense. This doesn't explain why they converted the name into just general Nintendo points, but thats an explanation we will never get. The cynic in me says they are seperate to keep people from spending left over Wii Ware points on DSi games. The optimist says it is to prevent people from using free DSi points on the Wii. Neither makes much sense though.

It does make sense if you use totals to direct funding as this will give them early numbers as to where to send money on games. as nintendo have alot of 1st party dev's also on support of platform

And then it stops making sense because that information isn't useful at all. You want to know which games people spend money on. Knowing which platform gives you little to no idea on what to make. There is a reason the HD consoles get floods of FPS, and the Wii gets floods of mini-games. It has nothing to do with how many games are bought for each system. Basing development decisiions on a piece of information that will be all but useless in a couple days (you know when the points are actually spent) if not less time is nothing short of retarded. You wait to see what sellls, and then decide.

some of what you say is true but if you take my thinking in to account they get both sets of information the money spent on the platform and latter what kind of games people want as well as money earning interest points not spent.
as with points you prepay for everything.

It's an issue of Nintendo's online infrastructure. It's probably impossible without significant overhauls, which they won't care to make

Um, the guy at gamestop said that they're going to be called "Nintendo Points" instead of "Wii Points", or "DSi Points", but he could be wrong...
