Forums - PC - Does Windows version matter when building a game PC?

I didn't know they have DX10 for Xp already, it's been awhile since I play PC games. Just google it. http://www.techmixer.com/download-directx-10-for-windows-xp/

vista supports DX 10 officially while xp does not. If your building a good PC you might as well get Vista. Get the Ultimate Edition. If you want a really good PC get XP pro and Vista ultimate and do a dual install

Long Live SHIO!

lol so the guys easily detected that you know nothing about computer parts bugrimmar?

If u alredy own XP u can wait with Vista. I chose to stick with XP when i upgraded to a gaming PC ½ years ago. Ill get Vista later.

Just wait for Windows 7, it performs way better than Vista as Vista performs better than Windows XP and just run a virtual machine if you want to play any XP/98 only games. Thats what my next build will be like.

Tease.

not really, but if you're going for 4gb of RAM remember to pick-up a 64-bit version of the system

the problem is, if i buy vista now, i'm going to just throw it away soon, right?

or rather, to finish this problem for good, is the difference of having directx 10 big enough for me to notice on Empire total war? (i'm buying this pc primarily for this game)

You can run another Windows version inside your Windows. So you could run Vista which runs a virtual machine of Windows 98 so you can play older games, say DOS games. @Bugrimer: Its more than that, Windows Vista runs the latest games better and its not just Direct X 10, its also every version of direct X after that. Windows XP is almost 8 years old, remember.

Tease.

xp doesnt support direct x 10. that is all

Yes it does. Although many people don't know how to turn that into reality.

and how exactly do you do that?

With a custom version of windows XP made by some pretty hardcore geeks.

Google it.
