Because of the success of the demo?

With loads of threads already discussing the fact that the FFXIII demo may single-handedly have turned the tide of the console war this week, it stands to reason that most people in Japan who would have purchased the PS3 for FFXIII have now already done so.

Given the success of the demo, how many of you have revised down your estimations for the launch week?

Please give me your predictions for HW and SW sales in Japan only in launch week and lifetime (SW) for the PS3 and FFXIII respectively.

why would you not revise up ever so slighty? i see your point in suggesting that those who wanted to wait for ffxiii have gone out and bought the system for the demo, but what about those who were on the fence and saw friends or family play this demo and decided to hold out till the actual release of ffxiii? i think the chance of the ps3 selling more is greater than it selling less due to the success of the demo.

Why would they?

There were gameplay videos available prior to the demo.  Exciting as it was for a number of people to be able to play the game, they would no doubt just have been the most hardcore FFXIII fans.

I see no scope for the demo to do anything other than make SE money through increased Advent Children Blu-Ray sales.

The demo is the indication of just how much people want the game. 57k sales of the PS3? (40k boost)... that's a lot, even if these are of the most hardcore fans of the series. Not everyone will dump money on a demo, but I have a feeling we'll see an even bigger boost by the release of the game itself.

I think FFVII hardcore fans are the ones who bought PS3s
so yes I've lowered my expectations for FFVII launch week sales

I didn't have specific expectations so it's hard for them to be changed, but I think this bodes relatively well for Sony and SE. FF13 will definitely sell quite well, and while I'm sceptical of it being the next big thing in the series it should do better than FF12 by a noticeable amount.
