Not only that, but there's there 160GB model that's $499.

i doubt a price cut is coming anytime soon and sony doesnt need it but do you really think they'll say...yea a price cut is possible. that would just make prospective buyers wait and less money for sony.
Sony doent need the pricecut, expect the pricecut sometime in 2010.
Even with that 399/499 pricetag they compete, why cut it?
It cost $450 to make as of December 2008, according to iSuppli, with no confirmation from Sony.
Of course they are going to say there won't be a price cut! Then people would just wait for it and stop buying!
As soon as it's financially possible, Sony will want to cut price. Maybe not this year. But the PS3 cannot last for seven more years with a $399 price tag.
And also, third party support for the PS3 is going nowhere. When was the last time the 360-PS3 weekly gap was larger than 50k?
I wonder when people will finally accept that Sony is focusing on profitability. It's not like 3rd parties will stop making PS3 games (except in franchises where they stop making HD games altogether).
