But but but...ffvii remake and kh3 are coming to the Ps3 exclusively!!

::rocks in fetal position crying::

Well at least the FF7 re-release is a PS3 exclusive?  PSN title as it may be.

Isn't that more because Sony has publishing rights?

Not really, FF7 is mainly associated with Sony anyways. Plus the game was originally on the PS1, they don't bring PS1 games to Wii/360...

Do you think SCEA/SCEE will alow SE to release PS1 FFVII on the 360/Wii

Nope :3 I don't think SE really would want to either.

Why? Because they're afraid MS will do something? What can MS possibly do? It's only in MS's interest in getting JRPGs on their consoles, and in fact, SE should be the one who should be in control, and pushing MS around, they have the leverage, the games that make a system.

FFVII on US/EU PSN can only help them make an easy buck, which they can always use. It doesn't make any sense businesswise. Again, this isn't a fanboy thread, FFXIII on multiplatform makes perfect sense business wise. We're trying to analyze and if possible, rationalize the actions SE is taking right now.

They really wouldn't have a choice in the matter.

I mean.  Eidos published the PC FF7 which means 1 of 2 things.

1) Sony only aquired publishing rights for FF7 on the PS1.

2) Sony only got "Right of first refusal" and refused to publish FF7 on the PC.  (Which makes little to no sense.)  Though even if they did have right of first refusal they couldn't actually stop SE from publishing it there.  Just decline to publish it.

I see. Thanks, that clears some things for me.

I think they're more afraid of FF7 fanboys turning on them if they go multi-plat with it.  I mean if they lose that group nobody will buy their FF7 spinoffs.

The new market isn't worth the risk of alienating the big fanboys who largely are living off fond memories more then anything else assosiated with FF7.

A lot of people don't realize that S-E is seriously pissed off with the PS3's architecture. It's a bitch to program for, as we know how long it has been for FFXIII Versus to be in development. S-E realizes that the X360 has made a viable choice in the gaming market for 'serious gamers' since PS3 sales didn't really take off like S-E and Sony hoped, so that's why S-E is shunning Sony a bit. Plus with FFXI, S-E found it easier to port and enhance the PC version to the X360 as the architecture is similiar (DirectX). You CAN use the PS2 version of FFXI on the PS3, but it looks like utter crap on it. My friend Phonien on my old LinkShell had did it and said so, as the PS3 cannot upscale the game due to the resolution being that of the PS2 game, and the PC version is more flexible because you can switch the resolutions due to playing the game on different monitors.

You do know that versus is/was on hold for the main FFXIII...

That turned out false...

oh i c. I searched google and it was false indeed.

either way, it was Nomura console of choice whether it goes multi or not I don't care...

I think you're over estimating the number and frevor of Sony fanboys. Hell, I even swore when I heard the FFXIII news on E3 (the MS guy couldn't of looked any more like an smug asshole with that Tom Cruise smile =/ ), but I'm over it now, and I'm going to buy SE games if they're quality.

I'm sure that after XIII, nothing can really surprise and upset Sony fanboys anymore.

I don't know.  I mean FF7 has to be the definitive playstation game as far as the sytem goes.  To lose exclusivity for the game that was at the start of "Playstation dominance" would be quite the blow.

Heck, the blogs and games websites i bet would have a field day of negative press.  Calling it the deathknell of the playstation family and stuff.  Too poetic to not pass up.

And who would everyone blame?

@naraku diabolos ps3 support Ps2 upcalling and texture smoothing since 1.5-1.8 a long time ago.

This isn't a thread to chastise Square Enix's decision to back the 360, or tell it that it has no right to. They obviously can do whatever they want, and I personally believe that they're only hurting themselves for their fanatical support for the 360.

Square Enix's goal is to make money, and thus their action's are fueled to fufil that purpose. However I do not understand why Square Enix is making decisions that simply don't make sense in any way at all.

One of their arguments was that they want to get into the American market.

It's always a good idea to try to tap a huge market, but why did they conclude to not release a single PS3 game? Is the PS3 not in the States? Haven't many early PS3 owners buy the console with the assumption that SE will release games on that console? Do they believe that MS will refuse to let a JRPG go on their console if it's not an exclusive? Is MS promissing to use their well oiled marketing machine to push the games (which didn't seem to be fuffiled)? Perhaps they simply were too optimistic, or made a mistake? Then why do they continue to be one of the biggest 3'rd party developers in the gaming industry that has not released a single game on the PS3?

Their other argument is that multi-platform=profit. If so, this completely baffles me, as they haven't followed that very logical strategy. They haven't released their games on as many platforms as they can to get a huge potential audience.

Can anyone please explain, without any fanboyism (M$ is paying $E off. Lulz, stop being so butthurt Sony fanboys), why SE continues to support the 360 with such frevor, without getting any short term benefits, nor a long term benefit in sight?

What major corporation have you ran before?  Otherwise, I'm really confused as to what level of business accumen you have to critique SE's business strategy.
