Forums - Nintendo - Why does everyone love to hate the Wii?

I keep saying this...
The most popular thing always gets the most amount of hate. This applies to virtually everything in the world...

Most core gamers are not "hating" more like a little taken a back at the set up of the wii online. Gamer codes is the worst idea for online period, the lack of a headset to chat it up with your bros when you guys are online (wii speak is a speaker phone knockoff), and finally the inability to allow all games to be played with the either the wii mote or a conventional controller killed this console for some people. Why? Well everyone is not all into the "waggle", some people look at the shoddy way 3rd parties implement this into their games. I personally say if you are not going to take full advantage, then give people the option of a standard controller. Proper HD upscale could have pulled more ps360 fans into the wii. To pay 900 to 10,000 dollars for a tv and then be told by a small console developer that "HD gaming is not needed" is a slap in the face to those who can and do own HD TV's. Up scaling games would have been the easiest route to allowing prospective wii owners to jump on board over the PS360 IMOB.

Classic Controller and GC controller.

Just saying.

I don't hate on the Wii. I won't be quiet about my opinion that it's extremely over-rated though.

The reasons I dislike it and disliked the Gamecube are simple :

- The last great market leading Nintendo was the SNES. Every system since then has failed to live up to 1/10th of what the SNES was.

- IMHO, Nintendo only makes/has a handful of good titles every generation. Beyond that it's the same old, same old. (Hey, I love Mario and Zelda as much as anyone but some new games, new IPs need to be released). It seems like all I ever buy Nintendo consoles for anymore is Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Insert one or two more titles here. And thats about it.... It gets quite old.

- The system is totally geared for children. While this doesn't mean it can't be fun, there is no doubt the system is geared for children or a younger, family friendly crowd. While I like games and have no problem with this...I also love games like God of War ,Kill Zone 2 and Gears of War. The HD consoles provide family friendly games as well as the fun gore-fests.

- While graphics aren't everything, The Wii was totally short changed graphically IMHO and technologically in general. We all have read their financial reports, they certainly could afford to put a competitive system in place with Microsoft and Sony. It bothers me a tad that Nintendo will forgo making the best, most complete system on the market in favor of their personal profits.

- It has no functionality beyond what you see. No DVD, No anything.

- The online network is horrendous IMO.

- Nintendo as a company is afraid to take risks anymore. It's all about playing close to the vest and making profit. (Which is fine from a company health perspective...But from a consumer of Nintendo products I want to see more effort on their part and I just don't see it. With each passing generation it get's worse IMHO too.

Because it's the most popular. The obvious answer is indeed the right one, in this case. You wouldn't be seeing any hate if it was in 3rd place.

Being hated on is good. It means you're doing something right.

The gamecube was hated almost as much as the Xbox last gen.

Gamecube certainly did not have the amount of hate thrown at the Wii. Most people seemed to consider the Gamecube a disappointment, but irrelevant in the face of PS2 dominance.

it was the first console i ever bought with my own money. prior to that, i always got one for christmas or my b-day. i do like the wii, but i play my 360 more. the games are great, but for me, they just don't seem to keep my attention for very long. i own ssbb, mario galaxy, resident evil: uc and no more heroes. the only other game i want on the wii is mario kart wii. i don't feel betrayed by nintendo and am actually really happy to see them leading this generation. i feel that it is actually underrated in the gaming community because, with the right number of people, it is really fun to play. when i'm alone though, my 360 is what i prefer because the online is better. people hate the wii because it shook up the pecking order in gaming. to some, sony is supposed to be at the top with little to no competition but that just isn't how it's going. the games they say aren't good or hardcore. i beg to differ because the while the wii does have it's fair share of crap that i avoid (it's not like every 360 and ps3 game is great either), you can't really deny that it has plenty of gems like the 360 and ps3. people will make any excuse to bash the wii, but it isn't a bad console by any means.

I liked Wii. I thought it was great machine and that I would get it sometime.
Then I got it.After 2 weeks I just hated it.

Is it because the Wii is the #1 console this generation and that it will win the console war?

No wat win the war wat r u talking about ps3 will win it

Is it because the Wii doesn't have as much as a good hardcore fanbase as the N64 did?

yes and snes and nes those systems were fine for me wen i was younger gaming on them but nintendo has failed to age with me

Besides Mario and Zelda, Is it because Nintendo has seem to abandon the rest of their best IPs like Star Fox or F-Zero?

not reallt they fail to come up with new mature IPs like sony and MS have done with MGS HALO GEARS UNCHARTED

Could somebody explain to me? OK i also dont like the name Wii wat is that it sounds like Wee wee look at the little Wee wee thats not something i can be proud of owning were its DVD play back function

I am so confused and I need an answer. Dont worry bout an answer y dont u go do ur show

                                                                      Play Me

For me, it does not have any hardcore games at all. But I still love it for its Zelda games.

I don't love to hate the Wii. Who is this "everyone" you speak of?

The reason the Wii gets hate is because you're on the internet. I could go a lot deeper but you generalized too much and I don't much feel like it.
