I don't hate on the Wii. I won't be quiet about my opinion that it's extremely over-rated though.
The reasons I dislike it and disliked the Gamecube are simple :
- The last great market leading Nintendo was the SNES. Every system since then has failed to live up to 1/10th of what the SNES was.
- IMHO, Nintendo only makes/has a handful of good titles every generation. Beyond that it's the same old, same old. (Hey, I love Mario and Zelda as much as anyone but some new games, new IPs need to be released). It seems like all I ever buy Nintendo consoles for anymore is Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Insert one or two more titles here. And thats about it.... It gets quite old.
- The system is totally geared for children. While this doesn't mean it can't be fun, there is no doubt the system is geared for children or a younger, family friendly crowd. While I like games and have no problem with this...I also love games like God of War ,Kill Zone 2 and Gears of War. The HD consoles provide family friendly games as well as the fun gore-fests.
- While graphics aren't everything, The Wii was totally short changed graphically IMHO and technologically in general. We all have read their financial reports, they certainly could afford to put a competitive system in place with Microsoft and Sony. It bothers me a tad that Nintendo will forgo making the best, most complete system on the market in favor of their personal profits.
- It has no functionality beyond what you see. No DVD, No anything.
- The online network is horrendous IMO.
- Nintendo as a company is afraid to take risks anymore. It's all about playing close to the vest and making profit. (Which is fine from a company health perspective...But from a consumer of Nintendo products I want to see more effort on their part and I just don't see it. With each passing generation it get's worse IMHO too.
