Forums - Gaming - Is Halo reponsable for many good games today ? Yes or No ?

i think so. i don't think it is fair to say that the game had little to no impact on the gaming industry. i was a great game and is part of one of the most popular series of the past decade

In hact halo's biggest "gift" to the genre was recharging health, which of course it didn't come up with. Recharching health being the single most casual feature in any ever.

Wasn't it recharching shield in addition to hit points?

Maybe, but if it was then their was a very small amount of health

Also it seems to me that most "good" console fps are more inspired by their PC ancestors (CoD4, KZ2, ummm...others)

Ask me about being an elitist jerk

Time for hype

Halo introduced all kinds of things to the FPS world that other games take directly from.

Alright lets get some facts straight:

Halo revolutionized the regenerative health (no more hunting for health packs ala Quake, Doom, etc...)

Halo's matchmaking service is the best their is for games of this type (at least on consoles) Alot of games have tried copying their matchmaking (including Gears 2) and fail miserably.

Halo is still one of the only online multiplayer games where vehicles are actually balanced.

It revolutionized hot buttons for grenades as well as the hot button for the melee attack.

They also made it so you can only carry two primary weapons instead of every weapon on the map.

All in all if it weren't for Halo console FPS's would not be any where near what they are today.

So yes Halo is responsible for alot of games. And I mean ALOT.

Alas, im out of this thread. One thing is discussing facts with people, other is coming to insults and profering things just because someone dissagres with your position.

I've said that all points with Halo are valid. It's a great console FPS and it did a lot for it's genre on consoles.

But since i've been called a pc elitist and a pc fanboy, when clearly i have the 360, and clearly i've played Halo 3 (if you aren't too blind to look at people signatures).

It's a shame you can't discuss politely on most threads here, only with a few members. Oh and one last thing. Everyone please try to broaden your horizons. I've played all genres in almost all consoles there ever were. I'm proud to call myself a gamer, can't say the same for most of you.

Current PC Build

CPU - i7 8700K 3.7 GHz (4.7 GHz turbo) 6 cores OC'd to 5.2 GHz with Watercooling (Hydro Series H110i) | MB - Gigabyte Z370 HD3P ATX | Gigabyte GTX 1080ti Gaming OC BLACK 11G (1657 MHz Boost Core / 11010 MHz Memory) | RAM - Corsair DIMM 32GB DDR4, 2400 MHz | PSU - Corsair CX650M (80+ Bronze) 650W | Audio - Asus Essence STX II 7.1 | Monitor - Samsung U28E590D 4K UHD, Freesync, 1 ms, 60 Hz, 28"

Every console FPS game since the launch of Halo:CE back in 2001 tries to mimic the success of Halo series and try and constantly improve on the winning Halo formlua. Unfortunately many FPS game developers have tried and failed to capture the popularity and selling power of the console FPS juggernaut which is Halo series. Call of Duty and a few other FPS series have come close to matching the popularity of Halo series.

You never played video games in the PC/16 bit console/arcade era did you?

Because *spolier*  A lot you mentioned happened before Halo existed.

Listen I enjoyed playing the Halo series, I think there good games and do what they need to do well, but lets not ignore common sense.  There were simply other games or FPS's that came out and did what Halo did before it, doesn't make Halo bad, Halo did a good thing from learning from other games and implementing these features well.

But honestly a title of ""Is Halo responsibile for many good games today?""  Oh course not.

While there are some that took a page or two from Halo, I think the more influtential shooters are Half-Life, Medal of Honor, and Goldeneye. Halo would be nowhere without these games paving the way

Ill have to go with yes, and more so durring college, and more so with halo ce, halo 2. since then lowered amount of fuun but its still there

I'm not saying Halo changed the way games are done completely. But it definitely had a huge impact on the way FPS games were done from then on.

Maybe the title should be ""Halo's impact on the FPS genre."" or ""Halos influence on the FPS genre.""

See those titles are boring and proberly get you less replys, but were all clear on the topic at hand.
