Forums - General - Plasma or LCD?

I got an 37" Amoi LCD TV, but just because 3 years ago, it was the only affordable FullHD set available.

But LCD are just Bullshit... Plasma is so much better and since the prices dropped and even FullHD is available and cheap, I still wondering why so many people buy this LCD crap?

Everybody who really has tried a FullHD Plasma will agree, LCD is no match...

My next TV set is Plasma, to cover the time unless the OLED will be out at reasonable prices and sizes.

It depends on what you are looking for, but overall LCD's are better technology.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. LCD cost less to ship, last longer, and works at more altitude. You also never have to worry about screen burn in (although new Plasmas are very good at this too).

if you want the best TV image, I still say get a DLP TV. I was lucky enough to get an LCOS before they stopped making them (cost to much to make, but have the purest picture posable).

Everytime at night, when I look a "Thriller", I hate my LCD. Without Lights in the room, I have the choice between, black on black, or grey in grey. Contrast are just awful without any ambiance light (now I now why Philips does Ambilight).
The now advertised contrasts of 20.000:1 are just dynamic contrasts, only valuable between the darkest and lightest part in one screen, but not at neighboring pixels and that is were the big problem is. Contrasts are regulated via the backlight, to get the same quality as plasma, you need for every Pixel a separate backlight.

Yea, it's why I like DLP. Black is the absence of all light. Meaning Black is as black as you can get.

Plasmas have a much shorter shelf-life, and when the screen goes out, they are done. You generally just have to replace the backlight on LCD's (which is not expensive but can be kind of a pain in the ass) and they will in general last longer.

Plasma;s a dying format, trust me, I know. LCD has a a fair bit of life left in it. OLED is very exciting and looks just great. What the real question is, is which type of screen is going to be best suited to having some kind of Parallax barrier to allow autostereoscopic content to be shown, because that is where the industry wants to head.

Yes. Plasma is not backed up by many vendors anymore, mainly Panasonic only. Maybe because Sales people in the Shops are dumb, or margins are higher on LCD? From the Image Quality, there are lightyears between the Two. I have experience with both and I would never again want to have a LCD. But most people who have LCD never did compare side-by-side in daily use. Plasma is so brilliant even in bad light conditions and every bit as good in ambient light as LCD.

Picture quality isn't everything. Plasmas face:

1) Burn in
2) Typically heavier and bulkier than LCD's
3) Shorter shelf-life (typically)
4) Not as good when used computer monitors
5) Less support from manufacturers
6) Higher power consumption

OLED's are the future anyways. Plasma already has two feet in the grave.
