I think Street Fighter is more popular, but Tekken is better. There is a distinct skill required to reach the top level of both games, so it is probably just a matter of tastes.
In fact....neither game is "better."
However, Tekken is my favorite.
Yeah, that's right. That is the truth.
Edit: Also, imo, it is harder to master the Tekken engine than SFIV. SFIII, however, is deeper than any Tekken so far. My stance on Tekken is that it is an "expert" level fighter, and anyone who thinks I'm wrong has never played me.

I have to go with Street fighter. It was one of the first arcade games I ever played and I love it still to this day. I like Tekken but I haven't really been able to get into 3D fighters as much as 2D. I 'd have to say that I like Tekken's graphics better though.

Graphics I would have to go with Tekken, but Street fighter IV looks very good. Gameplay would be a tie. Combos would have to go to Tekken. Characters I would have to go with Tekken because I think they are more bad ass, but that is just my opinion. Lastly tekken is harder to master because of all the move that the game has. I am still learning to do all the moves and I have been playing tekken 5 over three years now.
Which game is better? Its just a matter of opinion.

This. This and This . Tekken . Easy to learn. Hard to master. It's the most accessible Traditional fighter imo.

I'm giving Streetfighter everything but Combos...
Though if combos mattered then Killer Instict would be the best fighting game ever.
