MikeB's admitted friends in Amiga inc were going to pay millions for naming rights? How could they do that when they didn't even pay employees despite court orders?

You should really read that post, it sums up the ethics of Amiga Inc. MikeB still professing to this very day his close ties to Amiga Inc show exactly what type of person he is. Go read the timeline in that post and then go read this legal filing in the lawsuit against Amiga Inc (start at page 10, bullet point 45)

Enjoy!

I find it rather hilarious AS3 you call others out for being trolls when you first post in the thread completely ignores the previous pages worth of evidence that prove the 360 drive does indeed read dual layer at 12x. You saying it's 8x isn't proof and posting the same link that thankfully MikeB hasn't recycled doesn't prove it either. You missed the point completely of those who disagreed with MikeB, they provided more factual evidence than he did of why he was wrong.

It's not off topic to refute a claim like the speed which MikeB raised first but when the claim was proved false there was no concession made by him hence other people posting why he wouldn't back down. If MikeB was offended by any post he has the right to report any post and leave it in the hands of the mods to decide if it was unreasonable.

You trying to say I'm trying to push the subject matter (the topic) in another direction would be classified as "trolling".  I read through the first few of the near 20 pages or so that were already here before posting.  How many have come into a thread 20 pages in and read through all of it before posting.  I typically read the first few pages and the last couple of pages in those situations.

Anyway, I will read the other few pages I missed.  However, the manufacturer's link to the drives that were launched with the X360 said 12x read on SL-DVD.  Maybe they have been changed out at a later point in time.  I see that link is no longer active, so it's possible.  Even at that point, the devs couldn't count on more than 8x for DL-DVD due to the other drives still out there.

EDIT: I just when through the first 14 pages and no such evidence from a credible source (or any source for that matter) was ever used to prove MikeB wrong about DL-DVD read speeds.  Someone got MikeB on a technicality regarding the X360 data limit by a few hundred MB (hardly worth celebrating about).  In fact, that shows how desperate a lot of these people are to say MikeB is wrong.

I DID notice HEAVY trolling TOWARDS MikeB, though.  I witnessed people just dead set on character assassination, because he represented a threat to their current X360 beliefs.  And, THAT is cult behavior 101.

Tease.

This was one of the most strange threads I ever read in a forum. Almost scary. Very interesting (well not the DVD stuff, I didnt understand much of the technical talk).

MikeB exposed lol.

Can't believe I was banned for having an opinion. Even when posts are backed up with facts you 360 owners choose to spin the truth. The cop out for moderators on this site is to say it's flaming/trolling when is not what they want to here.

@PS3 Fan: As I recall it you were banned for using blatant insults. Don't try to hide behind the opinion card.

Why are you lying? You were banned because of flaming and personal attacks.

Exposed? I was always open with regard to my past. For example, my second ever post here at VGChartz (January 2007) states:

"I have been a moderator for more than 5 years at various popular portals, including OSNews.com. Moderating zealous fanboys can be a huge task and usually will make you more enemies than friends, I think for those interested should realize and ask themselves the following: Are you able to moderate people and blackout your own bias and is your skin thick enough?"

After that MorphOS preview, trolling by MorphOS backers against AmigaOS4 stories went through the roof on OSNews (other editors, not involved with the Amiga community fully agreed as well). At Amigaworld, various Moobunny regulars just signed up to troll, posting mass viagra ads, pictures of a gay person bending over...., threatening people, etc, this often after interviews with the people behind the development of AmigaOS4 or other such exclusive content. It was quite a task to keep the place clean and enjoyable.

I don't see any evidence from MikeB or yourself that the drive is only 12x SL-DVD or even prove that SL-DVD game discs even exist.  All I have seen from the case stressing the 8x DL maximum is an assumption (because most drive manufacturer's list the faster SL read speed) and now a mysteriously taken down link.  Mike you started these threads for 'technical accuracy' to inform us ignorant saps but you've failed to provide anything more than an assumption and a broken link.

What I do see is;

- Developers complaints re: PS3 blu-ray performance (not storage).

- NJ5 gamespot quote showing install times faster on AVERAGE than your maximum proposed read speed.

- Guiding Light's hacked firmware enforcing 12x because MS can allegedly ban you account if they detect anything lesser.

- Multi-platform mandatory installs.

It looks more like the evidence is stacked against you, what if the 12x SL only theory is a misinformed assumption and the reason why the DL speed is quoted is because no SL games exist?

Do you have any contrary evidence?

I didn't see anything definite that proves the DL-DVD manufacturer spec was 12x from any of the posts.  I keep finding conflicting information over the web.  Some merchant site say the BenQ drive is 16x, which would suggest that it's 12x max for DL-DVDs.  Then, there are other sites that say the drive reads at 12x max, which would suggest that it's 8x max for DL-DVDs.  On top of that, I found firmware flashing tutorials that take you step by step through the setup process.  In that setup process is an option that has UP TO 12x as the max speed, which suggests 8x max for DL-DVDs.  I'm more inclined to believe the firmware options, since it interact directly with the drive itself.

Here is a speed test done for 16x DVD drives.  Look at the performance difference between SL-DVDs and DL-DVDs.  I don't know of any drives that read SL-DVDs and DL-DVDs at the same speed, BTW.

The thing is that the rip times to the HDD, according to an earlier post, doesn't match up with a 12x max drive.  I would have to conclude that the retailer sites that say the BenQ drive is 16x max is correct (12x max DL-DVD), if the rip time to X360 HDD is to be believed.

So, over around 7GB, the X360 has the drive speed advantage.  Over anything more than around 7GB, the PS3 drive has the speed advantage.
