Forums - Gaming - Fallout: New Vegas has rocketed up my Most Wanted list. From nowhere.

Seriously, guys, seriously. I know there are two camps of Fallout 3 players: those who love it and those who hate it.

Okay? I dig that. I haven't played Fallout 3 yet, haven't even played Fallout 2, have only played the original Fallout. But I love Fallout anyway. And I thought Oblivion was pretty nifty.

Now you know the first two Fallout games were made by Black Isle Studios, otherwise known as the Greatest RPG Creators in the History of the West (tm), and that several of the most important figures from this studio (including scenario writer Chris Avellone, responsible for Planescape: Torment, Fallout 2, and everything good about The Sith Lords) went on to form Obsidian Entertainment.

Everybody knows that. You can't enjoy "WRPG"s and not know that.

Putting the Fallout property back into the hands of these people is like the fulfillment of some kind of prophecy. I expect something Biblical to rise out of it.

I can't stop frothing at the mouth for it and I don't even know anything about it. It's just.... take Obsidian's ability to build a cohesive game world with a razor's edge narrative focus and Chris Avellone's particular storytelling flair, then combine it with the publishing beefiness and technological knowhow that Bethesda throws around.

Somebody tell me they're excited, too.

This is the first I've heard of it. Is it an entirely new game?

(Is this game coming out on consoles, or just the PC? I've never played this series before)

Well... I can't say I am, because I've never really played Fallout (my brother loved all the games to death, though, and I bet he's excited as hell), but I can say that I hope it delivers.

@Okey Dokey:

To the best of my knowledge, yes. This is not a Fallout 3 expansion, it's a new game handled by many of the original creators of the series.

@wfz:

It'll be coming out on the HD consoles, purportedly, but if you want to get into the game: http://www.gog.com/en/page/fallout_promo/

Good Old Games is my go-to place, and any computer on the market can run Fallout.

Khuutra,

Oh

My

Can you say that again, the news is too great for me to take in from one post.

Tease.

Squilliam I am going to assume you are not being sarcastic, so here is the article that was posted on our site by Popzara:

Also here is a quote by Tycho from Penny Arcade:

"I can't even imagine what this is like for the team at Bethesda, or what the metaphor would even be here. It has a drama threshold consistent with the Old Testament, with its resolute arches of lineage and prophecy. If I found out that someone like Chris Avellone was coming in to do something like my own job, I would immediately begin throwing up - and I wouldn't stop throwing up until absolutely everything inside my body had come out."

   I can't say I am that excited. You know, Obsidian wont really have a freedom over its development. Fallout 3 turned out much more successfull than the previous two so Bethesda's supervisors will make sure the new game appeals to Fallout 3 fans.

   I remember being very excited over NwN2, I loved the 1st one and the info that BI guys are making the sequel got me really excited back then. But the game didnt live up to my expectations, nor did KotOR 2. I especially despised the lack of original soundtrack in NwN2, the game just reused the tracks from the 1st game. It felt cheap.

   But on the bright side, The Mask Of the Betrayer was great. And it had some Planescape:Torment feel to it, dont you think? If Alpha Protocol (Obsidian's 1st brand new game) turns out good then I gues I will get excited over this new Fallout.

It's going to be a great game, and I'm definately going to buy it.
I just hope Bethesda doesn't do their usual thing and stuff the disks full of bugs.

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

You were disappointed with KotOR2?

Well, I guess that's understandable, as the game was almost fundamentally broken, but on the side that I care so much about (writing and characterization and the building of theme) it was fantastic. Technological side, not so much - but they've clearly established themselves as a studio that's not good with tech.

Unfortunately, my experience with the studio is much more limited than yours. I wouldn't even know where to start with the rest of their work, between BI and OE - I just wait for games to come out on GOG.
