Forums - Sales - If PSWii were the "SD/Motion" Twins - Would 360 Be LEADING in Sales?!

THis is an interesting topic that came up in another thread

if PSWii were the MOTION TWINS.....then would Xbox 360 in fact be IN THE LEAD

as PS360 still = > 50% of the console's sold

so PSWii may actually have that 48 Million WIi figure DIVIDED between them.....while the xbox 360 could've got all of the PS3's extra sales

so would xbox 360 benefit by being the ONLY high-end console & have won.....quite ironically?

Potentially. But as the amount of "downstream" customers greatly outnumbers the amount of "upstream" customers it could be about even. You just love asking these hypothetical questions don't you?

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

No... just no .. Wii would still be on top.

@YesWiiCan

how though

Wii's market would be SPLIT

xbox 360 would have a REIGN on Harcore games

No.

In a sense, the Ps3 and X360 need each other.

The Wii has boomed and made a massive name. That would have happened even if the Ps3 was SD (or well, assuming otherwise would make everything ridiculous).

To penetrate that immense name, the competition needs a lot of good games. You don't need as many just to hold it.

Anyway. The 360 has a lot of its games simply because they were originally (when people thought Ps3 would be dominant) planned for the Ps3 (not saying they were built for Ps3... You get the point, right?).

So, the 360 would have far less software, and the Wii would have had more. This would just continue snowballing (due to 360 falling behind in userbase) and could ultimately lead to an early death.

The Ps3 and X360 need each other. One being SD would hurt the other immensely. (It wouldn't necessarily have hurt the SD one though).

i think majority of devs would have supported the motion twins like they support the HD twins now, wii or PS3, one of them would be leading in sales.

Wii/Mario Kart Wii Code:2793-0686-5434

@cougarman

hmm.....

maybe devs would've followed PS3 as they felt it would be a success like the PS2 and so would've commited to low grfx develpment

yeah maybe xbox 360 would never get the support it needed

yep, it would.

Cause of the audience they target. Nintendo will first target the casual and nongamers first and Sony will target the hardcore first. Then when Nintendo has enough casual and nongamers they will now try to attract the hardcore. Sony will do the opposite and try to get casual and nongamers but it will be to late since Nintendo already got most of them. Since most casual and nongamers will already have a Wii they wouldn't want to buy a second like the Ps3 but hardcore gamers would buy another console if it had good exclusive.

This is actually a good question. I don't like to entertain "what if" scenarios for the most part, but this one is intriguing...
