To anyone in EU who believes in socialism:

This is what happens when you live in a country where it's the governments job to take care of you. They get to decide what's best for you, it's no longer your concern. The government removes that burden for you.

Yes, you get to live a minimum guaranteed standard of living, but everything comes with a price.

This post is so full of fail I don't know where to begin. First off, can you say PATRIOT Act? Oh wait.. wasn't this in a capitalistic country? Wait wait, wasn't it in the US even? Holy shit that's surprising. There is NOTHING stopping the government in the US from doing the same thing, ever hear of the "interstate trade" clause which lets them whatever the fuck they want to? Again, this post was so full of fail that I thin someone hacked into your account to write it.

If that law gets passed, the EU will be virtually blacked-out. Pirates bring down the internet in the EU

When have I ever said the US is not socialistic? The Patriot Act is a clear violation of the Constitution. The US has many socialistic programs.

It’s why I am always arguing about US politics. If the US was perfect, I wouldn’t have much to say.

Can't really see that passing (maybe elections in June are also a factor).

But if it were to pass there is also the bit about people supporting it by staying with a provider with those policies. Though I'm not very optimistic on the Germans protesting :/ Spent 7 years there with huge part of the DSL infrastructure being controlled by the Deusche Telekom with a forced disconnect every 24 hours. Those were also the lovely times when getting hold of fansubs was a matter of waiting in queue in DC++ and irc fservs, I ended up signing up with a more expensive ISP just to have a constant connection.

I sent 4 complaints the first year and apparently the 24hrs disconnect was necessary because they didn't give out static ips, go figure when the definition of static ip was "more than 24 hours".

this yet another reason why the EU sucks

Because yes, from what I have heard, this will be absolutely terrifying.

I can’t get to the document, but I think that’s more for searching your computer/iPod/whatever, when you travel from one country to another.

So if you have torrents on your laptop that are not legal, they are allowed to search your laptop for those files, and prosecute you if they find anything.

We had a thread on that a few weeks ago.
