Forums - Gaming - Summer lovin: hot games for hot months

It wasn't too long ago that video games really didn't see much representation over the summer. It seemed like every major title would see a release either august-november or january-march. The other 5 months were typically designated as a time to ship out any excess baggage. Not anymore.

Last year saw the largest summer haul that I can remember. After seeing ninja gaiden sigma hit stores in june 07, we got an all out sequel in ninja gaiden 2 launch june 08. Hitting shelves not many months prior was grand theft auto 4. A fall staple, the game saw a april 29 release. Who can forget metal gear solid four crashing the scene on june 12? Here alone, we have 3 MAJOR releases representing 3 of the top tier game franchises on the market today.

Then, there's the wii. To date, all but one mario kart has hit stores during of the traditionally hot gaming months. That one game, mario kart wii, is all the most recent. It hit stores last year, april 27. Wii fit? May 27.

Fast forward to this very day, and we get nintendo's follow up to excite truck, excite bots. May 18, punch out wii. June 8, wii motion plus. June 15, tiger woods golf and grand slam tennis. The conduit, june 23. Boom blox will follow up last years summer smash with a sequel may 19. It may not be the biggest name on the block, but it would be a shame to over look klonoa's remake on may 5. And of course, wii sports resort july 26.

Moving off the wii, may 19 will see the release of the next gen revamp of bionic commando. How about prototype june 9, infamous may 26, and fight night round 4 june 30?

Finally, I've got to mention what is arguably the biggest release of them all. Arriving 9 and a half years after the original installment and over 4 and a half years after the sequel, gamers will finally get there hands on the sims 3. Taking the gaming world by storm, the sims has been roping in both passive gamers and enthusiasts since the year 2000. June 2 will see the new installment attempt to give it's fan base what they've been waiting for.

So, there you go folks. I hope everyone reads this and looks forward to the summer as much as I do. Post your thoughts about what you're looking forward to or whatever else comes to mind.

Not as big a summer as last year but the wii is certainly showing it's improvement over last years line-up.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

Huge gaming drought as usual.

My only hope is that Wolfenstein gets a summer release. It's gonna be so awesome.

^^

It may not be weeks of gem after gem, but it's definitely better then most previous years. I think it's a fine line-up of games, but to each his own.

Summer is my favorite season I wont be gaming until autumn.

I don't get up to much gaming in the summer anyways, I'm generally outside.

You missed some possible great games like Ghostbusters, Batman: Arkham Asylym, Terminator: Salvation, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, Fuel, Red Faction: Guerrilla, Damnation, and Overlord 2.

This summer will be great overall for gaming. However, I believe that gaming in the summer in the 90s was the best.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

@legend11

nothing against ghostbusters, batman, terminator, red faction 3, and overlord 2, but I'm not holding my breath on those being quality titles. Who knows though.

I'm not familiar with call of juarez, fuel, and damnation.
