Forums - Sony - Blu-ray sales nearly double from a year ago!

I laugh at all the haters and doubters of BD, including the pathetic M$! BD's are here to stay, that's that.

Numbers would have been higher if the Twilight Blu Ray wasn't exclusive to Target and Bestbuy B&M stores and everyone else was only allowed to sell online. I went to buy it for my girlfriend and had a "WTF?" moment when Walmart told me that they were not selling it on Blu Ray in stores.

What a stupid mistake they made there. Due to that stupid decision the BD only accounted for 5% of the movies first weekend sales of 5.2M.

BRs are just to expensive at the moment, but they are starting to drop in price. ive seen 2 for £20 deals and the more affordable the become, the better the sales will become.

didnt know br was usually tracking above dvd, but the recession is not an excuse. i went hmv to buy indiana jones kotcs and the BR was £35 whilst the special 2 disc edition was £8. i wanted the br but couldn't afford it.

considering that on average br's are twice the price of a dvd, its not doing bad at all. looks like sony are needing a price drop across multiple products.

Wow those prices are crazy. I usually grab BD movies at Target for around $22 while new releases on DVD are around $18-20. I got the Twilight 2-disc Target Exclusive Special Edition for $26.

I wonder why you are finding prices that high. O.o

Everywhere charges that high where you live?

Be happy you don't see prices in Poland - almost everything is $25-30 equvalent in shops for single disk releae.
Only movies i have were imported from UK (and usually from below 10 pound bargain bins)

Doomed to fail until they reduce the media prices. I've bought 3 Blurays over the last year and really cannot justify the cost of them anymore in the current climate. Interesting to note that in these reports before I've always read that Bluray was tracking above DVD, now it's stopped doing so they blame the recession?

Do you not think that that has a possibility of being correct?  Look at game sales which are supposedly recession proof!

I think it shows the media is priced far too high and has been for at least a year.  If it ever wants to be anything other than a niche product then prices must fall.

I managed to get the Firefly BR on sale for $25, and Sin City for $12.

So cheap I couldn't say no!

Sorry I was trying to be sarcastic since you blamed the recession "current climate" for not being able to justify BR prices then went on in the same paragraph to point out that people were blaming the recession as soon as BR stopped tracking over DVD like it was a concept which would not be justified.

I'm just saying...
