Forums - Sony - Could M.A.G. turn into a huge system seller?

I just read the in-depth preview of M.A.G. in the latest issue of Game Informer and it looks like it has the potential to be mind blowing.  Considering the popularity of multiplayer combat games such as Call of Duty, this game could be a huge feather in Sony's cap if it is done right.  Could this potentially sell a PS3 to all of those frag happy people who have only played games on the 360 up until now?  I think this game looks like it could be incredibly tantalizing to the Halo crowd.

Again...this is assuming the game turns out to be good.  It needs to be a fun all-around package, not just rely on the 256 player thing.  The high player count needs to be what puts it over the top.

I really doubt it.

The name alone isn't very...catchy. I hope it does well though,it's looking to be a cool game.

If the Massive part of the game is game changing in a positive rate, then maybe. I thought destructible environments in Bad Company was game changing, and so I want that over COD (although I never played COD =/). If the Massive environments allow you more freedom to approach the enemy and target and rewards flanking over running straight through closed corridors and reflexes, the squad/general cooperation is rewarded, customization of character (along with huge selection of guns), and other features might get PS3 owners to buy this instead of COD.

System seller is unknown yet, but the first priority should be attracting current PS3 owners.

if sony wanna find their way back to NA they need:
299 price tag
KZ2 + MAG + Gears of war 3 (call me crazy but i fully expect it to be multi)

so far it sounds like a great prospect 256 players but if the gameplay turns out to be bad the appeal will vanish quickly

It will be nothing of the calibur of KZ2 which is the only good shooter I see on the PS3. The pictures i've seen of it are lackluster. It looks like a poorman's Socom.

No doubt!  I'm just thinking about the people who eat, sleep and breathe online multiplayer.  If this is done right, it could be their holy grail.  I know from my experience though that when a system I don't own gets a stellar entry to a genre I love, it becomes harder to resist buying that system.

I don't think so, its new game. Not even the first Halo was a huge system seller. I think the game will get decent first week sales. I don't know much about the game and when its coming out. We will just have to wait and see what to expect from this title.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

dont think it will it wont appeal to most it doesnt even have a SP campaign

Its a FPS game so it'll need to be innovative for it to sell consoles. Or have Halo in the title. And i dont think this game will be or have any of that.
