Damn i wish the US would have good internet connections like that, my internet connection says that its 5mb/s :(   but in reality its 1.5mb/s down and 750kb/s up....which is just pathetic.

 


Umm... in reality you have to divide the internet speed, 5 mbps in your case, by 8 to get the download speed. So if you get 1.5 mbps then you're lucky

You're not talking about the reading you get in the system tray from Windows? That measures the speed of the connection between the machine and your router, not from your router to the Internet.

no you still don't get it. 8 bits make a byte. The speeds that the ISP claims are in bits. Therefore to get them in bytes you must divide by 8

no you still don't get it. 8 bits make a byte. The speeds that the ISP claims are in bits. Therefore to get them in bytes you must divide by 8

Bah whatever then, in reality it doesnt' matter...

Actually, it does. As everything you download is dealt in with bytes, and your bandwidth cap may be in bits or bytes... depends on how much they're trying to do do you out of money.
