I always find it funny when someone bangs on about PC gaming being expensive in one breath, then declare they game on a 52" HDTV in the next...

This is something I have heard many times.  If you mention this to them, they will then go on to tell you that since its a TV it is a needed piece of electronics, hence not part of their gaming cost (although this argument is not valid if I use my PC on my TV).

I like it when HD console fans make fun of Wii graphics, online, or complexity of games.

Every time I get into an argument with a PC fanboy I always list a large amount of amazing games (MGS4, Mario Galaxy, Uncharted, Halo 3, Killzone 2, SSBB, etc...) only playable on console and the reply I always recieve is that all the games I listed are crap. That leads me to the conclusion that PC fanboys either have;

a) Bad taste in games

b) Have simply forgotten how to have fun playing video games because their too busy counting the number of pixels

or

c) Their levels of nostalgia for older games have built up to such ridiculously high levels over the years that they have become blinded to reality.

I'm not sure which one is the main cause, possibly a combination of all 3.

The definitive evidence that video games turn people into mass murderers

^ I'll give you Fighter games (like SSBB), Sports/Racing games and platformers. The rest ARE crap.

Thief is twice the stealth game as Spliter Cell or MGS, HL/HL2 is twice the FPS than anything out for the past 3 years. I won't even go into strategy games, cause they don't even compare to PC games from over 10 years ago, much less anything newer.

Too true, it's like manual vs automatic or wine vs beer. It won't be as popular, it will still be far far superior though.

Actually I'd reckon it is: over 260 millions online PC gamers by the end of 2007, more than the total of console gamers. One can argue that PC gamers don't spend as much money though, but PC gaming revenue is increasing at a huge pace, with countries like China online market growing over 75% in 2008.

The only time a console is more social than the PC is when the people are playing in the same room. However PSN and Live usually don't fall under that. When you step online, you can really tell the difference between a PC and a Console. Only one word describes the oline of the consoles and that's pathetic. Also PC comunities are far more mature, open to discussion, and online, generally more open. I also forgot to mention LAN parties. A LAN party is basically the same thing that happens when you get people playing your console in the same room, multiplied by about 10 times more fun.

Average joe is also a fucking idiot. Which also explains why the games for consoles are so fucking dumbed down and outright shitty in comparison to PC centric ones. Your average Joe also drinks beer, I drink Cognac. Does that make cognac worse? Hell no.

I'm looking for more fail posts out of you to entertain me through work.

Here is a fail post for ya.

um chysis says hello nothing on the consoles even comes close!! no not even gears 2 or killzone

Unfortunately its just one game + expansion.

This time last generation, there were significant differences between a multitude PC exclusive/Console titles.

Compare games of 2002 on the PC to games on the Xbox 1

------------------------------------------------------------

Compare games of 2008 on PC to games on the Xbox 360

Theres unfortunately a significant difference.

BTW the infamous R300 aka Radeon 9700Pro was released in 2002, it smoked everything and anything.

Im a lil confused. First I thought this agreed with my claim that this gen is unique in that PC versions are in essence no different in grafical quality (not significantly different) to console games, but then you write the bolded red part.

Oh and the Radeon 9700. Wow what a revolution it was. I loved that card.

Sorry, what I meant was that theres no significant difference, aka a significant difference in that theres no significant difference. I just got these two sentences combined somehow.

We must different eyes because when I play Fallout 3, or Oblivion or CoD4 on a PC vs 306/PS3 I see a pretty decent difference in overall image quality - doesn't affect gameplay of course, the good bits are still good and the bad bits are still bad.  But visuall there is a significant difference so far as I can see.  Checking out the site where I think you got the Fallout 3 images their analysis seems to point to a pretty big difference between the PC and console versions.

However, as per Squill's point (and I think you echoed the same sentiment) it doesn't seem quite as massive as you'd imagine, which I think is down to the developers rather than the PC platform - i.e. if you're making Fallout 3 or CoD4 would you really sink that much more into the title to make it shine vs PS3/360 or would you simply give it a graphics hike and call it a day?

While I see lots of 360 is holding the PS3 version back rubbish I am starting to feel the 360/PS3 versions are holding the PC versions back a tad.  For sure they're resulting in less well coded PC versions judging by the high level of bugs present in a lot of recent high profile PC versions of big titles.

Its more PCs holding back PCs. Why spend the money when the majority of the market has 1-2 CPU cores? A 'typical' steam PCs could probably just play HD console games about as good as the consoles themselves.

Probably the most important trend is -> The rejection of DX10/Vista, there are as many DX10 class GPUs running XP as Vista.

I believe the high end PC gaming market is going to stagnate until the release of Direct X 11 in the west t go alongside Windows 7.

Microsoft being in the console industry is proof enough of the threat consoles are becoming to PC gaming.
