Nope, they've always developed exclusively for the Playstation platform. Just because they have strong links with first party devs doesn't make them first party though. That's all I'm pointing out is that Sony technically does not own them, and it is quite possible for them to walk up to MS and say they'd like to make a game for the 360. Just not likely.

It's quite possible for nuclear missiles to destroy the entire world in the next 5 minutes , but that's a situation so unlikely it isn't worth mentioning. Insomniacs history , it's business practices have Sony at the core , I doubt they could easily ignore that even for an MS cash incentive , Insomniacs involvment with Sony is much more than financial.

IIRC correclty Sony's development studios even exchange technical knowledge with each other (including Insomniac.

I'm pointing out that even though Insomniac isn't technicaly 1st party that isn't really relevant. To put Insomniac in the same category as Media Molecule (Little Big Plannet devleopers) or Kojima Studios (responsible for MGS4 ) would be inncaurace IMO , 1st , 2nd ,3rd party are just general terms which don't fully take into account how complex these business releationships can become.

I did say that it wasn't likely. I completely agree that there is little to no chance of Insomniac going multiplat for a long time, if ever.

Yes they do. Insomniac also has their Nocturnal Initiative where they share a lot of what they've learned with anyone and everyone who cares to look at it.

They do have a very close relationship with Sony, but I'm going off of what seems to be the commonly accepted definition of a first party dev.

"In the video game industry, a first-party developer is a developer that is part of a company that actually manufactures a video game consoles. First-party developers may either use the name of the company itself, like Nintendo; have a specific division name like Sony's Polyphony Digital or have formerly been an independent studio before being acquired by the console manufacturer, such as Rare or Naughty Dog."

EDIT: And I should add that I do see where you're coming from, and I agree to an extent... Just not enough to consider them first party.

I wouldn't buy a PS3 now because it's still too expensive for me, but if I consider it not only a console but an all-purpose entertainment centre, although that little unexpandable RAM is a tough obstacle that prevents it from becoming an home PC, those facts about free online dedicated network, standard peripherals, standard HDD changeable easily and cheaply and without breaking the warranty and finally BD are very good points for non gaming entertainment use. I'm still disappointed by little RAM and single general purpose PPE core, preventing it from becoming an alternative general purpose PC architecture, but for its non-PC uses it's OK.
Did I write that I'm disappointed it turned out to NOT be the deadly threat to Wintel architecture MS feared? Anyhow, I know I won't buy it, when I'll have more time and more money I'll complete my equipment for the near future with a Wii and a DVD recorder with HDD, as I did for DVD, for me BD starts when burners for PC's too get cheap and then standalone recorders too, but I wish it good luck.

As a PS3 fanboy, I gotta admit that we really do sound like salesmen nowadays XD

I guess we're trying to compensate for Sony (America's)'s lackluster marketing department.

No doubt great facts

"She said I'm F**kin Awesome!"

"Gurl don't be afraid, I just wanna cut, U can call me a squirrel, I'm just tryna get my nuts"

"Here's some daily science... The World revolves around the sun, not you!"

I'm  going to get a PS3, eventually: @ $199.00

Until then, unless there is a FF VII remake for the PS3 exclusively. I ain't biting.

5 Reasons to get a 360

Reason #1:Better Online Play
Reason #2:Arcade stripped of unwanted features
Reason #3:Compatibility with Halo 3
Reason #4:Reliably cheaper
Reason #5:Greater 3rd Party Support

Firstly, this is an article/blog, not the OP's opinion. So before anyone attacks him for the contents of this post, take that into consideration.

If you want to know reasons to own a 360, check the other blog for that.

Secondly, The thread is called 5 REASONS to get a PS3. Why would they list both sides of the "argument"? If you are trying to convince someone of the qualities of something you don't nitpick your own flaws. Thats just like when you are trying to get hired somewhere you dont tell the boss that you are a lazy SOB, thats silly.

And I would like to comment on Nay sayers against BluRay. Why? Disc capacity helps with two things that must be budgeted on the medium, graphics and amount of "game".CD was an improvement over cartridge. With it games were allowed to transition into having good graphics and getting way more "game" then you can on cartridge. THen came DVD, in the DVD error of gaming. This allowed games to look better, but at the cost of the amount of game you have(games are becoming drastically shorter). Now we are in the "HD" era where high level graphics are a must......yet we are partially still in DVD era 0_o? This means games have even less actual mass to it because they must give better graphics in order to appeal. What BluRay offers to gamers is a medium that allows HD content, as well as more "game" as a whole. How is this not a plus? How does this not matter? You can say "Oh, put the game on more DVDs" but we know that cant work for all games such as sanbox games like GTA. It suffices in RPGs but BD still offers the potential for better(multiple BD discs). Lost Odyssey took 4 dual layer DVD discs, about 28gigs of game. Game designers always have tons of things they cut out of a video game due to storage issues. BD allows for game designers to go crazy with it by cramming as much content as they can think of.

The only downfall of BD is that is costs more to make.......for now. Yet thats something a gamer shouldn't care about anyway.
