add in hundreds of thousands of dangerous laptop batteries....

and 400,000 overheating vaios...

and cd's with xcp protection...

That's the rootkit.

I actually don't remember many people defending Sony over these failures.  Not that it's particularly necessary: all businesses will have them.  Provide us with links to the effect that Sony knew the batteries were defective when the models were greenlit.  They aren't there.  Even if they were, failure rate of the batteries was incomparably lower than the 360's optical drives and RRoDing hardware.  And note, when Sony found out the batteries had problems they 1) issued a recall (no recall of 360), 2) CHANGED THE BATTERY CONSTRUCTION SO THEY WOULD NO LONGER FAIL, and 3) fired the engineer overseeing the battery production.

This all seems quite different than what MS did here.

Granted, the reason people haven't had to defend Sony as much on this site is because Sony's video game console, the PS3, is much better engineered than the 360.  And since this is a video game site...  you get the idea.

As I stated, I don't remember Microsoft giving me viruses.

Ummm okay...you are correct  - it was engineered so well that it was the most expensive console in history and its parts were so expensive that it has cost sony over 3 billion dollars and has NEVER MADE A PROFIT.  If you call wasting all of the ps2 profits good engineering then you are correct sir.

That "better engineering" is the reason sony went from 70% market share to 20% market share and last place.

If you were a consumer wanting a good product, which would you buy?

If you were a fanboy wanting your company to "win", I know which company you'd favor this gen.

But overall, Sony are still in the black as far as their all-time profit/loss numbers in the videogame business; Microsoft is like $6billion in the red or something.

This was way way off-topic but anyway I dealt with it.  ;)

Many do remember MS shit breaking on them, though.  Higher numbers than remember their Sony battery malfunctioning.

And I don't remember anyone defending Sony over the rootkit.  Yet, MS is defended a lot on the 360 hardware front.  People who bring it up are "trolling", people try to suppress them, report them to mods, etc.

I know. You're very brave to have that avatar in the face of such an insidious campaign to silence people like you.

Actually its 1 year in all of EU.

I looked at the Dutch website
http://nl.playstation.com/help-support/manuals/

http://www.playstation.com/manual/pdf/CECHJ04-2.30_1.pdf

And the same guide on page 14.

It says it applies to Austria, Belgium, France, Italy etc.

It´s one year everywhere in the EU but through a EU directive it was extended for 2 years in all of the EU coutries but the consumer has to prove the problem started duriing the first year or that it was a fault from the begining (from the factory) for the second year warranty to be valid.

I know this because I still worked in Euronics when this came in effect, it wasn´t liked here in Sweden at was up for discussio for a long time. (I don´t remember the specifics 100% but it was something along the lines in the above sentence).´

If this directive has been pulled back since then I don´t know if that is the case then I stand corrected and sorry for the missinformation, but as far as I know it´s still a valid directive. I could find out on Monday by going to my old boss and ask.

people just like the system. everyone's got their reasons and that's really all there is too it. i defend the 360 because i hate sony, not the ps3 (which i actually enjoy playing), just sony because of their arrogance in previous generations and because i really enjoy gears of war and halo. plus, i don't know many people with a ps3. most of my friends have a 360.

he is lying. it isn't 3 years in the EU.

ok, I believe you.  I was just trying to tone CMoney down because he was talking about us warranties which isn't what MikeB was saying.

I think it's funny that as soon as MikeB is caught saying something wrong he abandon's the thread though.  Plausible deniability?

Great Thread. Finally its is time to lay the sheep down which is MikeB. Hes nothing but a propagandist, lieing fraud.Time to move on
