Is that really surprising? The 'j' in 'jRPG' clearly suggests who are these games are targeted at. They arent meant to appeal to westeners.
A lot of people somehow are under the impression that because Final Fantasy and Pokemon are popular in the West then that means that the jRPG genre as a whole is popular and appealing to western people. It is not.

Not necessarily. JRPG is not even an official acronym. The J is just used to tell us that that specific RPG was developed in Japan.

I cant agree with that. They are not called jRPGs because they are made in Japan. We dont call european RPGs 'eRPGs' you know? (and Europe makes a lot of them) European RPGs are considered a part of wRPGs because they are similar (identical) in style.
jRPGs are totally different in style, gameplay and everything. 'j' in the name describes that, not just suggests which country the game is from.

The main character is a male, but a female is provided in case a female gamer wants to step into the shoes of being a female captrain. What you're doing is committing slander in a game where you have the choice to be in a relationship or not. You fail to grasp that it is completely up to you whether your character has sex or not. That is not what the game is all about. Have you even played the game? What you do in less than one minute of movie time (based on your choices) has nothing to do with over 50 hours of gameplay.
Epic Storyline- Mass Effect has this, where you enter a Epic galactic battle against the ship Sovereign starring as Shepard, commander of the Normandy. Over the course of the game you meet people and your choices with them effect your relationships and their moral. The game itself is amazing. Playing Mass Effect actually got me into Sci-Fi flix like Serenity.
Wait a second.....what am I even telling you about that game for? This link will give you a laundry list of the accolades this game has recieved.

This game is far more than what you think it is. It's future is far beyond what you can imagine.

Japanese culture as a whole is swallowing America. Cartoons, cars, language courses taken in college and much more. JRPG's are still popular. JRPG's are doing shitty because the JRPG fanatics have been split between the Wii, PS3 and 360.

Japanese RPG's or JRPG's are RPG games that take the Western turn base style of WRPG's (The originals) and put a make a linear storyline out of it. Instead of it being based on being personification roleplay, it adds the action game vantage point of helping a character meet his obvious destination. That is the Japanese style. In that sense you're not really role playing. A Japanese developer can create a Western style game any time they want, but it wouldn't be called a JRPG, now would it?.
Western gamers generally prefer western RPGs!? This is an entirely shocking revelation.
So I see. But it wasn't countered very well. WRPGs have always had a moderate to strong presence in the West, particularly NA. Just look at the popularity of Diablo.
It took awhile for WRPGs to have the break out success of JRPGs in the West, however, because 1. WRPGs were confined mostly to the PC realm for quite some time, while JRPGs first made it big on consoles, and 2. WRPGs were never really taken and pushed to the forefront of people's attention by one of "the Big Three". Sony's marketing campaign for FFVII really helped push the JRPG genre back in the ps1 days.
In the end, it's apparent that Western developers are more in-tune with what Western gamers might want, and this is why WRPGs are so popular today. Of course, that notion should be quite obvious, unless Western gamers are somehow capable of enjoying RPGs but are not capable of making any decent ones themselves.
