Forums - Gaming - Game Informer's poll gives interesting results about RPG's.

Yesterday, I reserved Infamous and decided to pick up a a copy of Game Informer. Inside the "Connect" section were poll results from their reader surveys. I was amazed when I read a little gray box in the mid-right hand side which said "The land of the setting sun". It said:

"Japan is known for its RPG's but with games like Biowares Mass Effect (made in Canada), western RPGs are taking over. Over half of our respondents - 56.1 percent to 43.9 - said they preferred western made RPGs to those from Japan."- Game Informer

Games like Fable, WOW and Mass Effect are drawing in more supporters for WRPG's and I cannot say that i'm angry about it, infact, i'm very happy. The biggest difference between JRPG's and WRPG's are that the JRPG's focus more on narrative than to actually focus solely on a role. Don't get me wrong, I love that, but when I play JRPG's I fall into the story. Playing as so many characters, I tend not to not allow you to feel like you're the character. Western RPG's give you this feel while allowing you the freedom (most of the time) of walking around in open worlds. Personally, I believe that WRPG's and JRPG's can work side-by-side to better the quality of gaming. Next gen I believe they will be considered equals in the gaming circuit. There is no doubt in my mind that the Mass Effect series will take the crown for best RPG series of this gen. What are your thoughts?

Yes, most JRPG's (outside of FF's main franchise) tend to give off that feeling. I feel sick to my stomach when they tell me these people are 15 years old when they look like 23-25 year old male or female models.

Jrpgs have been few and far between and mostly unimpressive this gen. This is the reason. I still prefer them by a long shot though.

I do like both, it is what make them different and lovable, if some producer could reach the mid-term between plot and story-telling, costuming and freedom would be the best game ever.

I used to love jrpgs but now I'm not that intrested in them anymore. FFXIII and Versus XIII just doesn't get me that excited. I used to buy FF without even waiting for reviews, but after seeing the FFXIII demo I'll wait for the reviews before I buy it.

It's FF. no matter how much you hate it, I can promise you that the reviews will be AAA (>90%)

I can't say that I disagree here. JRPG's have let me down as of late and this poll seemed to bring up everything I used to keep inside about JRPG's. I'm getting the FF series, but thats because I want at least one taste of a JRPG that has a "complete" narrative.
