Yesterday, I reserved Infamous and decided to pick up a a copy of Game Informer. Inside the "Connect" section were poll results from their reader surveys. I was amazed when I read a little gray box in the mid-right hand side which said "The land of the setting sun". It said:

"Japan is known for its RPG's but with games like Biowares Mass Effect (made in Canada), western RPGs are taking over. Over half of our respondents - 56.1 percent to 43.9 - said they preferred western made RPGs to those from Japan."- Game Informer

Games like Fable, WOW and Mass Effect are drawing in more supporters for WRPG's and I cannot say that i'm angry about it, infact, i'm very happy. The biggest difference between JRPG's and WRPG's are that the JRPG's focus more on narrative than to actually focus solely on a role. Don't get me wrong, I love that, but when I play JRPG's I fall into the story. Playing as so many characters, I tend not to not allow you to feel like you're the character. Western RPG's give you this feel while allowing you the freedom (most of the time) of walking around in open worlds. Personally, I believe that WRPG's and JRPG's can work side-by-side to better the quality of gaming. Next gen I believe they will be considered equals in the gaming circuit. There is no doubt in my mind that the Mass Effect series will take the crown for best RPG series of this gen. What are your thoughts?
