Forums - Nintendo - Take Two-Gamestop: GTA: Chinatown Wars sales are exceeding our expectations

I am not really worried about this game at all, i actually think it sold more than npd reported.

Even Nintendo has commented on GTA: Chinatown Wars sales, and Take-Two is going to continue supporting the DS

“Remember that many games for Nintendo DS have a nontraditional sales pattern. The trend is toward ‘evergreen’ games that sell well over an extended period of time instead of in a one-month spike. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Nintendo DS is a good example. In its first month (November 2007), it sold only 36,000. To date, it has sold through nearly 500,000. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is a great game that has received tremendous reviews. We expect that with continued backing, it will follow the same long-tail/evergreen sales route that other top sellers have taken.” - Denise Kaigler, Nintendo of America’s vice president of corporate affairs

“We have and we will continue to support the platform. We think the mature segment of the DS market is growing.” - Alan Lewis, vice president of corporate communications for Take-Two

It just always seemed weird that the DS would track higher than the Wii by hardware and almost at the same rate for software.

That quote just gives a viable perception as to what is really happening.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

I met a Take 2 excutive today,  he noted how the sales have exceeded his expection and noted how legs will drive the game to amazing numbers, i tooK a picture to show how confident he was: We need to stop the negativity folks.

First sega for madworld and now take-two for GTA:CW?? Why dont these companies jump on the bandwagon and say that nintendos consoles are terrible platforms for violent or "Hardcore" (if you will) games. Everyone here sees it why must they pretend the sales are fine? There are 100M+ DS's out there and they didnt even get 100k sales. thats less than .01%. :(

Long Live SHIO!

At least we learned you may have a sarcasm meter. I am being serious, This game will not fail, NPD is wrong. Gta games have long legs, the psp gta games are selling just as much as this game sold this month after years in the market.

I guess they understand that as the install base grows that the potential sales of there backlog rises. They look at the Wii as a running total for core demographics rather than a set number of the current demographic.

The thing is the rate at which that demographic grows is faster than the PS360 plus it's all one platform, they must be realizing that the potential for growth of their target demography wont be there unless they put the games out there to encourage growth.

Of course the issue is that they still view people in demographics but whatever.

@1337 Gamer

im pretty sure a few hundread thousand but would be enoough for madworld to make a decent profit. GTA:CW will be a million seller at the very leat. id be shocked if a DS game wasnt profitable at 1million sales
