Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: We account for 58.4 percent of hardware sales

You may have 58.4% for last month, but until you get a steady stream of games like RE5, SFIV, GTAIV, Burnout, etc.....I don't really care

I'm sorry, but those games aren't mainstream. They don't apply to the mass market. Only a niche market to people who would want to burn their money.. Thanks for posting, though. Look at the demographic before posting something like that without analyzing what market Nintendo makes games for.

Isn´t it amazing that the anti Wii people rather see the industry decline then acknowledge the Wii and waht it has doen so far for us gamers and the industry and that is not included the direction the future will bring thanks to Nintendo.

Motion controlls are here to stay and it´s all thanks to Nintendo and all the anti Wii people will show how big hipocrites they are when they buy their console of choice next gen with motion controlls and praise their console for it.

Most people don't have a problem with the motion controls. The problem is this innovative technology comes with an inferior library and last gen visuals.

Inferior Hardware Specs = Limited Capabilites

I want more games like Oblivion, Mass Effect, Gears of War, etc. I can do without bowling and more Mario.

you can´t get all at at once, one step at the time and both will merge soon enough.

Nintendo took a big risk with this new direction and it woudl be suicide if they went for both extreme graphics and motion controlls if one or both wouldn´t have worked out.

Nintendo didn't take a risk at all. The Wii console is the cheapest to develop and had the cheapest launch price. The 3rd party games aren't doing so great but that hardly affects Nintendo considering their games sell extremely well.

You act like it was impossible for motion controls and HD quality specs to coincide. The motion controls aren't that amazing, its basically just a mouse pointer that detects when you waggle it.

Of course they took a risk and a big one bigger then any of the others as usual in this buisness it´s Nintendo bringing it forward or saving it from saturation.

It wasn´t impossible to do both but if they did and the motion controlls floped then the whole console would have flopped and they would be standing there with the costs of both. This way they got to test the motion out and improve it also so they are ready for next gen where they can merge the both.

The motion controlls are amazing not as amazing as they could have been but what do you expect from 1st generation motion controlls? perfection?

It takes time and small steps to get there and Nintendo had the balls to do it where the others didn´t.

Would I like it to have been the power of HD and Nintys motion controlls? Hell yeah, everytime I play on HD it makes me always think it would be so much better with a wiimote (assuming in would work with the game in question).

Can´t have it all at once we have to have it a step at a time and this is the first step, whatever happens from now on and who ever delivers the next step it doesn´t really mutter (even if I would prefer Ninty to do it) becaue we are in for a real treat gamewise in the future with better graphics and motion controlls all in one, lets just hope that they don´t forget gameplay evolvement when developing the other two.

I'm saying there is no chance the Wii could fail. The console was sold at a profit from day one and Nintendo has probably the strongest selling library.

The motion controls are the same technology as a mouse pointer. I bet they came up with the idea during a Power Point presentation. The innovative idea was making it detect waggling. The Wiimote is fine gadget and they've milked it very well. But no matter how amazing the control is I much prefer a superior library which both HD consoles offer.

Without Nintendo products, the industry would be down 14 percent for the year, according to the NPD Group.

Says it all right there.

Know what really says it all? Without the wii, sales would still be up.

NES, SNES, PS1, and PS2... all of those consoles were truly the best of their generation and best selling.

But the Wii just does not make any sense to me.

I'm sure a lot of xbox fans didn't get that the PS2 was the best of it's generation either.

Fan or fanboy? I had an original Xbox and Gamecube, both were great. But the PS2 had an huge library of great games and tons of variety.

Just fans.  Plenty of people could of liked the Xbox but disliked the PS2 for some reason or nother.

The bolded could also be said about the Wii... to people who enjoy the Wii.

Thats easy to say for us today but for Ninty it wasn´t that easy even if they were pretty sure about it.

Motion controll for the Wii wasn´t that easy to get it to work they spended more then 10 years on the ideai and to make it work. First mention about the revolution was in the early 90´s and thats how long they worked on it b4 releasing it.

Granted the plan was to release with/during hte gamecube era but the sales were probably not good enough for them to chance on i then and they choose to continue to perfect it and serve it with the Wii as the main dish.

I'm saying people who actually prefered the Xbox over the PS2 were MS fanboys. The PS2 pretty much won hands down in every genre. The best reasons to own the Xbox was FPS and couple of adventure/RPG games.

The Wii may have variety but that's not worth much when the games are weak.

Looking at Metacritic, here are the amount of games with scores 75 and up.

Wii - 76

PS3 - 144

Xbox 360 - 233

Well I'm debating about the friggin control. I agree Nintendo marketed it very well and I don't know why you keep bringing it up. I just feel this is the first generation the masses chose the console with the weakest library. That's my opinion and I don't care if you disagree.

And Nintendo was playing it safe by releasing a cheap console that was sold at a profit. This atleast helped guarantee they wouldn't lose money.
