Go look at screen shots from some orignal xbox games, those game even hold up today. There is no reason Wii games can't look that good.

Xbox had the advantage of being an x86 processor and a DirectX8 based GPU. This allowed developers to easily write code that brought out quality graphics. The GC and Wii utilize a fixed function TEV enabled GPU which means all shader work must be re-written to take advantage of it and most developers either didn't budget that financially or timely to do so. This is why a lot of GC and Wii games had a flat shaded look to characters and environments except for those with the biggest budgets who actually put forth the effort.

Then i demand to stop getting banned everytime i say its not as powerful as an xbox. Damn mod said i was lying.

Well it is more powerful than the Xbox. The problem is not so much power but rather effort. Coding for the Xbox isn't much different than a PC itself so it makes things very easy for them to bring about certain graphic effects. The Wii can out muscle the Xbox without problem provided it is utilized properly.

The analogy is this. Car A has 400 HP but has anti-lock brakes, traction control, and a host of other features while Car B has 600 HP but is much harder to learn to control because it doesn't have those features. Car B is still the faster car and given a good driver which best Car A all day long but most drivers (read: developers) are Car A drivers.

Well technically i got banned for saying the PS2 rivaled the Wii in power...

and i may or may not have called someone a pussy.

It doesn't. The PS2 was even weaker then the Xbox.

Yeah i know, but even some of the PS2 games hold up next to the best the Wii has at this moment.

Uhm, compare Metroid prime3 and super mario galaxy to a ps2 game please... I can understand why you get banned so often, but ur previous post was funny though. Kudos for that.

Ok, there's no way I'm going to read the two pages of quote ladders that followed my first post, but I assume that most of it has been agreement that the Wii version looks awesome and that Atari should be commended for making two separate, distinct but equally awesome looking games that will both sell gangbusters... Right?

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

That seems to be the majority concensus.

"The developer can do something like Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and go for the same look as the HD consoles and get ridiculed for looking like shit."

Or Dead Rising (when the graphics are superior to GTA III - SA, and GTA IV and DR look about the same on the 360), or The Conduit (all those effects don't save it from texture not looking up to HD level), or House of the Dead Overkill, or loads of other games. So yes, that is an annoying complaint. The Wii can make good graphics, just only moderately above the 6th gen level.

Nintendo fanboys claim they aren't graphics whores, but for those who find topping 6th gen stopped being good enough, they proved they are.

Although JRPG seems to be worried that this version is being treated as the inferior version. Twesterm has stated that the Wii version is the lead version for the artistic one, while the PS2 has to settle for the downgrading.

Let me get this straight.

You're complaining that the Wii iteration of the video game representation of a family movie is done in a family friendly art style?  Do I have that correct?   A family movie - family friendly art style.  And you're complaining and demanding respect for the Wii of developers by suggesting they use a realistic art style on Wii of a family oriented movie.

OK, now that we have the facts, carry on.

Yeah, you did not read the whole thread. Why would you? That would be a huge waste of time.

I did up to that post (and I'll likely read the rest) and I can honestly say it was a waste of time.  Aside from MadKiller contradicting himself, I think this thread really comes down this: the Wii is damned no matter what happens.

  • The developer can do something like Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and go for the same look as the HD consoles and get ridiculed for looking like shit.
  • The developer can go for a stylized look that sets it apart from the HD consoles and they get ridiculed for not trying to look like the HD games.

Did I get that about right?

By the way, love the Wii trailer just released today!

Go look at screen shots from some orignal xbox games, those game even hold up today. There is no reason Wii games can't look that good.

So now we're just talking opinions.  I think the Wii screens look great.  You're just upset for some odd reason (about a game you're not even buying!) that the style is different.

Activision and Atari both rightly realized that trying to simply dumb down the HD versions of the game and adding motion controls would not do.  It is more often than not a recipe for failure.  So what do they do?  They wisely made a completely different version that appeals to both consoles strengths.  Can you really fault them for that?
