i say warioware isn't that casual because from none of the people who bought wii as their very first console found warioware to be enjoyable (and it comes to... about 20 people). most found it completely pointless and actually too hard, and a couple who borrowed it got stuck on some levels that they couldn't beat the "boss". personally it's my most enjoyable experience of all video games i have ever played, but not for anybody that i know of.

warioware is still casual in the sense it's accessible, but it's not "that" casual. the campaign, which you have to finish to unlock to multiplayer modes, is far from casual. you need to be pretty dedicated to put in the time just to unlock that mode, which is utterly ridiculous.

EDIT: example of a boss they can't beat: the light sabre boss. "it's so hard! i always end up dying." and of course, they stopped playing the game, period.

Where are you getting this information from? Do you work at a game store or something? I've introduced WarioWare to a total of eight people who never play video games. All of them found it accessible and very fun (multiplayer wasn't unlocked for any of them).

they're my friends and my relatives.  and no, i don't work at a game store.  relatives are mostly 30+, friends mostly in their 20s.  most of my relatives dissed the game off, friends liked them, but like i said, they had trouble beating the game and gave up on it after trying it for one night.

O.o I've had friends (16-21) all play it and enjoy it with virtually no learning curve.  I've had parents of friends play it and they had maybe a ten minute learning curve?  I don't see how it's THAT hard.  Heck, my non-gaming friends even beat me out soundly on some levels.

there aren't nearly enough casual games... thankfully, from how nintendo is positioning themselves, 2008 is gonna be the year where we get to see lots of quality 1st party casual wii/mii-centric titles.

they never thought wii sports alone would propel the wii to the stratosphere.

Lol aren't enough casual games. Some fanboys say the wii is for casuals only when they hardly have any casual games on it.

yeah, but would they keep playing it?  my parents, my uncles, all think it's a completely pointless game, and dissed it as "a game for you guys, not us".  sure, they'll try it a couple of times, but they won't come back to it.

so there.  it's not at all meant to be casual.

the Wii is an epidemic.

So the question is... do I buy $1,000 worth of Nintendo stock or $2,000?

This is a reason why personal accounts never work.  It's so easy to be a one-time thing and there's hardly enough data to draw a reliable conclusion from.  I would point out that some people are so used to not playing video games that they reject them as a form of entertainment before they're even shown it.  I've seen people say that exact same thing about Wii Sports and no one can deny it appeals to casual gamers (among others).

I believe that, just because a game is casual, does not mean everybody (or anybody, for that matter) will actually enjoy it.

For instance, I could create a casual game where all you do is chop wood with the Wii remote to add to your Wii Wood Pile for later Wii Cook Outs. And it would be totally simple, all you do is swing the remote (kinda like tennis, except there isn't timing involved).

Actually that game sounds fun, nevermind.

of course--however, 90% of people who i showed wii sports to had an interest.  i've run into a few people who aren'ts interested.  the appeal difference between warioware and wii sports, for my sample, huge.  that is absolutely significant, even if my sample size is small, or perhaps even biased.  in the end, you need to make a judgement call.  and yes, it's gonna be subjective.

my judgement call is that warioware is nowhere near as "casual" as wii sports.  neither is it as casual as BBA--for my sample, BBA is a lot more popular.   sales would suggest otherwise, and i think it's because warioware is just such a much better game overall.

that being said, holding any game up to wii sports is unfair.  i can't imagine anything that's as "casual friendly" as wii sports.  wii fit is gonna be "casual friendly", but doesn't look like it's got as much of a fun factor.  however, there are certainly multiple elements in warioware that unequivocally make it very much casual unfriendly.

in the end, it's just my opinion, and you could very well be right that warioware is more casual than i give it credit for.
