Forums - Gaming - X360 outselling PS3 despite having fewer exclusive games

Thread title should be "how the hell is PS3 almost keeping up with 360 at twice the price?"

Then it should also read:

"how is the PS3 losing by 30k per week to a console that sells most commonly at $300/$400, even with the more, "better" exclusives on PS3?"

Since about 45% of the 360's sales are arcade models.  The other 55% is Pro/Elite at $300/$400.  Could be closer to 50/50 now, but regardless, half of those sales are not the cheap $200 price point, so PS3 lovers can not ignore the higher priced SKU sales and think that it is always a $200 gap.

How can you use the line "most commonly" and then go on to say that theres a good chance that the sales are 50/50 now? Just like you say that PS3 lovers can't ignore the high price SKU sales, 360 lovers cannot ignore the lower priced SKU sales. To deny that 360 is outselling PS3 because of its pricepoint is redicolous. It was getting outsold every week when the PS3's price was at a more competetive level.

This thread pretends like 360 is somehow miracolousley outselling a console that has better exclusives. The word "better" is extremely debatable but I'm going by what is said in the OP: 3 big exclusives vs. 15.

Also, Numonex, 1st party >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>3rd party. The highest rated, most universally acclaimed, exclusives of this gen have mostly been first party. The unreliability of third parties has never stood out more than it does today. Bioshock was at one point the 360's highest rated exclusive...and would be today had it not gone multiplat.

If they are indeed 50/50 then my claim does not fit, but I'm tired of people saying "Oh look 360 is half the price" and do not include the other SKUs into consideration.  It is not because the 360 arcade is $200 cheaper that it is selling more.  It is because it is $200.  Once the other SKU's get that low and the arcade even lower, sales will absolutely erupt because consumers love to buy their consoles at $200 or less

Also, I think when he says 3rd Party>>>1st party, he means if you have the most 3rd party support, you get the most games, most content, and most sales.  It happened with the PS2.  Sony just failed to capatilize on it this generation.

@Nightsurge
''$200/300 most probably does account for about 90% of 360 sales. But $300/400 are grouped together as the "non-cheap, actually has a hard drive, non gimped models" so that's why I grouped them this way and they still have the majority of sales''

If 90% of 360 sales are thru arcade models priced @ $200 then u are claiming a lot many of pro-elite versions are being awfully sold @ retailers.
That's hurting when the ps3 keeps up close gap with the arcade sales..u keep pressing on 30k as big difference accounting for $200 dollar difference

why does it matter that it launched a year earlier? the library is the same no matter how you look at it

It matters because games like Madden, Pro Evo, FIFA, NBA Live, Ridge Racer 6 and a shitload of others are counted as a part of the 360's game library. All or most of these games have newer installments that have been released on PS3/Wii.

@nightsruge - I completely agree. Now you are acknowledging that the price point is indeed a HUGE factor in why 360 is outselling PS3. Drop the Pro model to that $200 dollar level and PS3 will be falling back even faster than it is now.

Is this an alt?  He fails to read properly...

I said 90% are $200/300 (as in arcade and Pro), not JUST $200.  Arcade is anywhere between 45-50% and the Pro/Elite make up the other 50-55%.

So with that statement I have pretty much dissolved the rest of your post.  Please read more carefully next time.

they didn't have enough money to bribe like MS did for exclusivity to devouts...few efforts were out but didn't pay out in the long run. Now 3rd party games will eventually route back to the console along with usual 1st party games. the change of tide is expected around 2010 mid...

Yep price point is a factor.  And I'm glad you agree with me that it has nothing to do with "how much cheaper the 360 is" and more to do with that magical $200 price point.  The 360 has almost always been $200 cheaper except for when Sony had their big cut, so why would being $200 cheaper only affect recent sales?  Because that finally breached the $200 threshold

You have no idea what you are talking about.  Developers are shifting third party development to 360 and even more often the Wii.  MS doesn't bribe every 3rd party developer as you put it.  Sony did the same things the last 2 generations.... are you saying it's Ok for Sony and not MS?

Wait what are PS3's "15" exclusives that are out? I swear Xbox360 has more exclusives including all those SE games. Im lost.

@nightsurge
U don't get it..sony had to pay the price for doing the stuff last gen with ps2 that eventually led them to huge success...but now according to Sony hardware PR 3rd party exclusivity has been declared as non functional..they are no longer interested in luring 3rd party exclusivities which doesn't mean that MS has rights to continue owing to ps2. They are assisting every single 3rd party devs to keep the lead. And u can't deny it..
