 Batman is hardly the movie I'd point to as an indicator of Christian Bale's acting skills.  He didn't do too much in Batman, in my opinion...it was just the style and Christopher Nolan's direction that made Batman Begins so great.

Check the other movies we've talked about, and you'll see why Bale is so good.

Bale + Wenham= Great Metal Gear movie

BTW the movie will not be based on the games storylines, but it will have some of the characters from the game.
