Forums - Sales - Wii down to 48,7%

@greenmedic88

The funny thing is that there actually are some people who think wii will get 70% marketshare. :P

I'm not going to make a big quote pyramid, but jlauro is making perfect sense. Expanding the market has nothing to do with marketshare.

Unless you(Kantor and Esa) guys are arguing that the PS2 owners went to Wii(or at least account for a very high percentage of sales) and Xbox/GC owners went to 360/PS3("...") and only the additional sales are from new customers(expansion of the market).

Do you know how much of the ps2 owners went for each console? No? If so, then you have no point. I actually think that a lot of ps2 owners bought wii, because it is "cool" like ps2 was cool last gen.

Once again:

Leading console this gen has sold 4,8m more than last gen

Second place console has sold 8,3m more than last gen

Third place console has sold 6,8m more than last gen

Those are the numbers.

First I had this as an edit, but you already replied, so.. New Post!

It's also improper to separate the launches to date by region. For example the PS2 would not have sold millions more units if it had been a worldwide launch compared to the staggered launch it had because it was very much limited by supply at the beginning. Aligning the systems by worldwide launch gives the PS3 and 360 each a ~8M lead over the GC and Xbox, but Wii has a ~19M lead over PS2. Which gives it the biggest gap in both raw numbers and in percentages.

Those are the numbers.

Hmmm. Not sure those are the numbers.

Hardware from launch graph shows Wii ~20M above the PS2, slightly more than 4M.

If you're going to point out the PS2 staggered launch then I'll point out Wii's unprecedented supply issues.

Surely you have to consider the time each console has been on the market. Why wouldn't PS2 sold as much as it did if it was launched at the same time everywhere?

You really don't see the fail in there?

Sales are a bit slower (still great imo) but thats understandable, Wii had no major software releases in last few months, few more big titles should increase its sales by some margin.

Also this week saw release of DSi in NA which must've influence Wii sales , i mean some of those 600k that bought DSi bought it instead of buying a Wii. Wii is doing great in NA and Others, Japan is a problem but Nintendo should answer to it soon with WSR and MH III

I can see it hitting 50% at some point but 70%? That's asking for a bit too much.

The Wii usually sells like crazy during the holidays IIRC, so I expect it to at least hit 50% around that time.

The reason PS2 was staggered is BECAUSE it had supply issues. It sold(29,506,496 units) as much as it did in the first 125 weeks after it's first launch because that's as many as they could get onto shelves anywhere in the world.

Also I need to correct my last post a bit, the 360 has a ~9M lead over the Xbox.

Full numbers:
