Forums - Sales - Wii down to 48,7%

With those figures, it is pretty obvious that wii will not be the "PS2" of this gen. 70% marketshare seems impossible now.

I'm not so sure. The Wii has been *very* quiet for around a year now - ever since the release of MK. And its done well to build and hold its marketshare.

The other consoles have just finished throwing everything at the Wii - RE5, SF4, KZ, Yakuza, new Halo, ...

People have *very* short memories. Remember what the Wiimote + WiiSports did to the industry?

...guess what is coming out in 6 weeks: the next Wiimote (M+), and then the next WiiSports title...

Unless the HD consoles pull something significant and hidden out, I can see them having a *very* quiet next 3-5 months (until Xmas). I'm sure GT, FFXIII, GoW will do great at Xmas - but that is 9 months away.

...and already, some of the 360 titles I had penciled in for this Xmas - look like coming next Xmas.

A month ago, the 360 sold 215k (for the week), and the PS3 190k. This week they sold 160k & 130k - and this included Easter.

Wii sales have also dropped a bit (330k to 270k) - but IMO this is irrelevant until the next 'wave' hits (along with the marketing campaign). There should be a lot of Wii units in stock, so its going to take a while before we see more sellouts...

You just created an oxymoron or paradox. Good luck of thinking something clever to bypass it :P.

It's simple. You predict that it will and won't happen. That way, no matter what happens, your predictions are right 50% of the time, which is a far greater accuracy that most analysts .

Why would anyone who doesn't have Wii be excited about WM+ ?

Yes it will sell millions but seriously how is it going to be system syller i can't understand.

There is some merit to a claim like that. Waggle was not at all interesting for a lot of PS360 gamers and it just MIGHT be a bit more interesting for them IF all the games will support it.

Well if you weren't interested in motion sensing in first place would you be interested in more accurate motion sensing with a new collection of mini-games ?

To catch hardcore x360/ps3 players on Wii - hmm I don't know maybe really good Star Wars game would do the trick.

I was not interested in motion sensing because it really is just a replacement for pushing a button in most games. I don't really care about minigames which use motion sensing but IF every game will use WM+ (assuming it will be good) I MIGHT be interested to try it out. IF there will be good games supporting it. We shall see.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Quote: Leading console this gen has sold 4,8m more than last gen

^^^I found the fail.

It would take the PS2 around another year to reach current Wii sales (low supply included).

Leading console this gen has sold ~19M more than last gen leader after ~2.5 years on the market.

Where do you get your numbers? Just check the sales per region. You can see how each console has sold from their launches! With a nice graph!

Just out of curiosity, when some (crazzyman or leo-j) said that ps3 is tracking almost as good as ps2 did you notice how a lot of people whined that he used aligned launch for ps2?

As a Crazzyman fan and historian, I have to object.  He wasn't forcing aligned launches.  He was coming up with his own magical "first full year on market" system, which meant the PS3 didn't count until 2008 started, even though it launched in late 2006.  He was waiting until the European launch in 2007, and then all the way until January 2008.  It was the only way he could make the PS3 compare favorably to the PS2, and even then, it didn't work.

History happened the way it did for good reasons.  We should learn from that, instead of trying to rewrite history.  The PS2 had supply issues, and the Wii had supply issues.  We compare them from the first day of their first launch.  Trying to pull off a successful simultaneous worldwide launch is one of the hardest parts of launching a system.  It's not Nintendo's fault that they pulled it off with the Wii and Sony didn't pull it off with the PS2.  We don't have to look at PS2's launch with rose-tinted glasses because of that.  You're the one who's fudging the numbers in a pseudo-Crazzy fashion.

But I know CrazzyMan.  And you sir, are no CrazzyMan!!!

Umm, no. I am using the numbers as they are. How long each console has been on market. No "fudging" there. You on the other hand are saying some things like "but... but... wii was supply constrained" and so on.

Like I said the Wii will never hit 50% market share.

you're claiming that the wii will reach 50% in your prediction :p

lol good catch, lets hope my predictions are wrong then

And here I thought you'd change your sig :P.

lol I stick by my predictions, but I also stick by my Wii won't hit 50% market share prediction, I'll think up something clever later to explain why.

Let me help you. There is an easy way, that both of your predictions come true.

A fourth console must enter the market. (Apple console confirmed?)

Nice to see Wii is falling... the gap between 360 and Wii is getting close

Actually, it's getting bigger. The gap between PS3+360 and Wii is also getting bigger, albeit much more slowly.

I expect 50% marketshare at Christmas.

It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy
