Although the title may be a little misleading, I am addressing those PS3 games that have been announced for some years but have yet to make the light of day.

Initially, I will address the 3 prime offenders - Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5 & WarDevil

Heavy Rain
Announced at E3 2006, Heavy Rain has been in development since the start of 2006.  Although details have been on a slow drip for the last 3 years, in August 2008 was the first time we have actually seen any in-game footage and gameplay.

Effectively it's being touted as a 2009 release, but nothing bar a few artistic impressions have been released since August 2008.  Here we are 8 months later with no real release date and no more information or gameplay.

Will we see anything at E3, will the game get released in 2009 as stated or will it push back to 2010 or even later.

Gran Turismo 5
Again revealed at E3 2006, it has been reported that the game actually started production in 2004.  Polyphony Digital was also working on a cut down version and release Gran Turismo 5 Prologue in Dec 2007 (Japan) and Spring 2008 (Worldwide).  In July 2008, it was also stated that Gran Turismo 5 may be pushed back to 2010 to allow the company to focus on updates for Prologue.  Also we have really only had one Western update Spec III released in October 2008.

So here we are 7 months later with no new updates for GT5P and no announcements of GT5.  In the last few days there has been rumours of a big announcement shortly stating a release date for GT5, but nothing is official.

Will we see anything at E3, will the game be released in 2010?

Announced in 2005 or even earlier this game was supposedly multiplatform, but since late 2005 or early 2006, the game was then announced to be PS3 specific.  Very few details have been released about this game, but one of the major points being that it runs at 1080p and 60fps.

An updated trailer was released in early 2008 and later in 2008 there was rumours that the whole project was vapourware and had been cancelled a bit before.

Nothing has been released or said about the project in a year now and the slated 2009 looks to not be happening.

Is the game vapourware or is it actually going to happen.

After all that being said, at least 2 of the 3 games I have pinpointed will be released within the next year or so and both look fantastic.  But what it is with the extremely long development times?  Surely we should be fed more information about these projects over the course and not leaving it 6-12 months before hearing any concrete information?
