Forums - General Discussion - Tea Parties: Whats really going on?

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Calling that news Akuma, disgusts me.

And they wonder why their ratings are failing miserably, this is not news, it is indoctrination and a total slamjob. Keep going media, you are only tightening the noose around your necks!

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

That was at least funny. Its not like the discussion was very serious to begin with. You want me to go dig up some Fox News segments to compare?

Funny how this picture was plasterd all over the place a few years ago...

But no word on this one:

Why didn’t MSNBC jump all over that? The Media paints whatever picture they want you to see. They don’t want these rallies to alarm anyone, so they downplay them, and make the general public think they were all crazies, and racists red necks.

Try just reporting the news for once.

You could probably do that for just about any event where media are at with the right picture. Cameras and sound gear are pretty damn obtrusive.

And you are right, the media shouldn't blow things out of proportion when people really don't give a shit. That is my main problem with the media, that a tiny event in relative terms that everyone will forget about soon becomes a big deal.

The Somali Pirates story is a great example. I guarantee in one year almost no one will even remember it happened. The same thing for Obama not wearing a lapel pin and McCain saying he would have to get back on reporters on federal funding on birth control. I mean at least the latter had something to do with an actual social policy the guy has, but both were blown out of proportion.

Most of that MSNBC piece was just silliness, but the video of the blogger giving a speech was priceless.

I notice how both those videos are biased, just in the titles alone. "Keith Oberman on Fox News Bias" and " O'Reilly lies". Well news flash! People do actually care about the tea parties, otherwise the media wouldn't be trying so hard to minimize their effects!

Keith Oberman is the left wing Bill O'Reily... with a bit of Glen Beck craziness thrown in.

It's sad too because countdown used to be great... and he used to be funny... but then he just had like... a mental breakdown or something it was crazy.

If i didn't know he was a democrat i'd think countdown was a like the Colbert Report.

So then you support things like secession? And the war in Iraq?

I'm no being a hypocrit because I am not going against what I've said. This protest is not constructive. It is a response to the government that they didn't elect.
They are upset that they lost.

Other protests have actually been about something. Anti-war, anti-g20, anti-whatever. I'm supporting people that actually have a legitimate agenda. I never downplayed any protests that I didn't disagree with. I never said anti-g20 protesters were stupid.

"one protest is no different from the next"- is this the kind of logic I'm dealing with here? Everything is the same?

You just lost any respect in this debate.  Do you honestly think this "tea party" is simply about Obama winning office?
