It's hilarious how many people don't realise that March contained the opening week of Halo Wars, and not the opening week of Killzone 2...

People see what they want to see, I suppose.

Halo wars - MARCH - 639k = 639k
Killzone 2 - 2 days of February and March - 323k + 296k = 619k

There ya go son :)

Taken from a post above...

Nice, a Halo game beat a Killzone game by 20k, in a country where Halo is massive, and where the 360 userbase is more than double that of the PS3.

Please, don't say "RTS versus hyped FPS". Because it's not Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 vs. EndWar. It's Killzone 2 versus Halo Wars. So, it's "Double userbase massive series RTS" versus "hyped FPS". I wonder which one was going to win...

And you can look through my post history if you like. I always stated that Halo Wars, at least to begin with, would outsell Killzone 2, and I was wrong, actually, because Killzone 2 is actually winning in sales. But in America, particularly, I knew the Halo game would always win, whether FPS, RTS, RPG or platformer.

you obviously didn't read this the first time i posted it so her ya go :)  You asked for it

unlike what you ignorant people think, america won't just go out and buy anything with the halo name in it....if that where the case HW would have sold multi millions by now.

A portion of people bought it because its actually the BEST RTS on a console period!!

Another portion bought it for the halo 3 map pack that came with it.

And yes there was probably a decent sized portion that bought it just because of the halo name, but that group is in the minority.

Let me compare with you europeans and your GT would you buy GT tennis? (if that were even possible)

So next time try not to be so ignorant just because your hyped worshiped game was outsold by a RTS...

i agree with kantor, the halo name should not be underestimeted it helped the sells

of halo wars,or anyone really thinks the game would have sold 639k if it was an

unknown ip and had to rely on critics(there were harsh critics to halo wars)

Use power for the right things. At least for the things that you believe in.

Thats the thing...I do agree it helped it in sales, but not quite as much as you guys are making it out to be.

You're right. No one in the US bought those Halo soft drinks.

No you tool if you saw GT soft drinks you would buy them as would most people, now a game like Halo Tennis or GT tennis...i don't think so!!!

Thats where you're wrong. I would buy it. And I'm probably not the only one.

the only gt game i ever bought was gt5:prologue.. and yet a gt tennis does sound strangely appealing. Cars playing tennis ? hell yes !

I'm also not ignorant and you should watch how you talk. :\ But i know that a lot of people bought the game thinking it was a fps and that the tv spots doesn't show that it is a rts.

Check out my game about moles ^

well i don't know about that claim, anybody that would think that would have to be pretty dim

And i certainly don't know anyone that has done that, i believe its just a houswives tail.

Pretending that somehow halo wars did not hugely profit from the brand is insane. The title has a metacritic score of *82*. The exact same as C&C3 and 5 better than RA3 on the X360.

At 82, you're looking at a good game, the type that typically lives or dies by advertising (and far too often dies).

In this case, it had the Halo name, and that meant an insane boost in interest, coupled with delivering a good game => huge sales.

The importance for the industry is that using a game IP to cross-sell another game is very good for the industry (beats the hell out of paying someone else $$$ for a movie IP and dealing with timing issues/keeping their IP pure/losing all chance of a sequel/addons etc).

On the other hand, comparing it to KZ2 is rather silly - people were not waiting for the sequel to killzone, they weren't desperately wanting to fight against the guys with glowing eyes from the first game... all of that had to be sold. And they did a very good job.

In summary, both games sold (very) well, and both companies are likely to be happy with the outcome.
- Microsoft have proven that the Halo brand can be successfully used outside the immediate area, and got some very nice sales.
- Sony have a new 3d engine/techniques to pass around, a good exclusive shooter and some very nice sales.

So lets all be happy :).

I don't think anyone bought Halo Wars thinking it was an FPS....

Soon as I saw the title, I knew this wasn't gonna end well...

Isnt KZ2 at 1.4m, without Japan? And Halo Wars at 1m? MS must be hurting.

Exactly how many sales will Japan contribute to KZ2?  Is Japan that much into FPS titles?  I don't see it being that much actually.  Possibly high end, if LUCKY, of 250000 lifetime, which would be nearly 300% more than Resistance 2 sold in Japan, and nearly double what Resistance sold.  So, what you are looking at LIFETIME in Japan is less than the opening few weeks TOPS for all of Europe or North America.  It is not that major.

Also, exactly what hype has KZ2 had outside of videogame forums?  Most of the world doesn't know of it.  Modern Warfare is far more well known than KZ2, and this is on the PS3 also.

Typo's aside..PlayStation owners are just not that into FPS games....I do want to see which will sell more over the end of spring and summer KZ2 or HW...

Now i don't think thats true at all.  I think Playstation owners are into FPS to a pretty good degree....i believe (don't quote me on this) that FPS is one of the most sold genres on the PS3.

And i'm guessin that KZ2 will have better legs than HW.

I am curious why.  MAYBE it happens.  But the reality is that Halo Wars is in a genre that hasn't been done competently to any extent on consoles, while Halo Wars is competent.  Thus, in a genre that is devoid of titles, it stands out nearly alone.  This gives a game legs.  And yes KZ2 is brilliant, but it then runs into the likes of Modern Warfare 2 and others.  And the Call of Duty series apparently have outsold it, and there is a distinct chance they will still do it.  Not being top dog in a genre makes it harder to compete with a title that stands alone, which MAY have a market for it.
