Got this on VG247

Gears of War 2 executive producer Rod Fergusson has told VG247 that innovations in both games software and Microsoft services mean we’ve yet to see the limit of what can be achieved with Xbox 360.

Fergusson was quoted previously as saying the box had been maxed out, a comment he told us was taken out of context.

“I think there’s still more it can do,” the developer said, talking at GDC.

“Hardware, in some regards, always has limits, but it’s the software that takes advantage of that.

“The [Unreal] engine is evolving - it evolved dramatically from Gears 1 to Gears 2 - and I think you’ll see people continue to push that envelope about how they use the memory, and how they use the hard drive, and all those sort of things.

He added: “I think you’re always going to see improvements for specific games and the way they can architect the technology to take advantage of the hardware in the best way possible.”

“I think there’s still lots of room to grow.”

Fergusson said that developments in 360 UI software and Live functionality would also help keep the platform fresh.

“I think a lot of it too comes from the services side, and knowing what’s coming to Xbox Live in the next couple of years,” he said.

Anyone who had thought the 360 was already maxed out was an idiot to begin with. Now hes just stating what we already know.

Maybe it's not maxed out but we won't know in 2009 since basically no AAA exclusive was launched or will be launched on the 360.

the 360 has plenty of power still in it. and we should put what console
is more powerfull threads to bed now.
this late in the 360s cycle power should not even be talked about.
look at the wii its a gamecube 1.5 and is wining the war.
the 360 is very powerfull and its in 2 place
and the PS3 which is supose to be the most power console ever made
is in thrid place so all poweull gpu talk is mute.
look at last gen the PS2 was not powefull but it won the war
you dont have to be a power house to win the console war

Here is the difference between the two quotes:

One came before Gears 2 launched, the other one came after it.

I think you know what I mean (same pattern as Sony developers go for).

GTA4 on my 360 almost blew it up.

If Gears 3 uses up more of the 360 than GTA4, i want some special earphones so i can block out the sound my 360 dieing.

I was actually thinking of picking GTA4 this weekend.

It runs fine enough.

Just the 360 sounded like it was a Jet Engine.

The power thing is for fanboys to gloat.

If I knew PS3 was more powerful I would feel a way even though the 360 is winning the hardware race and have the games I want, but that's just me I want to have the best of the best, or at least have a system that is close in power to the most powerful, but from what I know PS3 and 360 are pretty much the same.

If PS3 was more powerful than the 360 by a noticable amount, I would feel a way about it, even though I like the 360 exclusives more, but I will just brush the feeling aside knowing the next xbox will be even more powerful.

If the PS3 was more powerful the fanboys would gloat and say we told you so, even if PS3 looses the hardware race to 360.

On the flipside if the PS3 wins the hardware race but the 360 lineup was better to me, I wouldn't care, similar to the genesis and the supernintendo, supernintendo won the hardware race by 10 million I think, but I liked the exclusives on genesis better.

It runs fine enough.

Nothing new there then.

I think you can load it on to the HD now which makes it much quiter.
