Metal Slug owns some but not all.
Seriously though...the sense of urgency in Contra 3 alone makes it one of the best games ever made. Music rules, visuals were amazing for its time (3 years before metal slug), and unless you play on normal like a pussy, its plenty hard. I've only seen the final end boss once back in the day...and that was a glorious day indeed.
Metal Slug. I love their comic environment and characters =P

the game is not as hard as you say, i can beat contra3 on hard without losing a continue, i can't beat any metal slug game after 1 without losing a continue. contra was amazing though i remember the misile hoping at the end of stage 4 as my favorite part of the game

I dont think it being harder makes it better. I love metal slug but it rarely gets more exciting than a casual fun play...where Contra 3 gets intense that only a few other mediums have managed to do so.
I'm talking Terminator 2 (movie) and getting shot at by a lunatic with a semi automatic intense...

contra3 is indeed intense, what sets it apart from most games is that is incredibly varied, at one moment you are running through the streets of a ruined city, pick up a tank an run through enemies, then a airplane comes and bombs the whole scenario,then you are hanging from steel pipes above a lava pit, adn when you thought everything was over you fight a giant turtle that produces flies and shoots bullets and lasers, that is contras first stage. and i like harder the better, you have a biger sense of accomplishement afterwards.
Contra... easily. It's just a phenominal series that is a joy to play.

I can't really discuss this anymore without my brain falling apart and me changing my mind. Contra does have better music, and the Minibosses rock the hell out of it. This will solve the music debate: I saw them do that live so many times, and they used to do this one level from Blaster Master and then go right into Contra, and the crowd would go insane and we'd all mosh and stagedive, like true nerds gone wild. |
