Europe was in love with Obama before the election. Now, not so much.

Lol, you kidding me? Have you even been to europe since Obama, pretty much all of us love him... Or at least most of the Europens I know do lol.

Why the master of America's new First Mutt is no longer in good odour with French President Sarkozy

Pluss the UK wasn't impressed with Michelle Obama mollesting the Queen, nor with Obama's idea of a gift to the UK prime minister.

They are politicians. they do critisise each other occasionally... Because Nicolas Sarkozy said something doesn't mean we all disagree with them. That's one politician. Besides it's a one journalist in a fairly Conservative newspaper.

I mean, for each source you find I reckon you could get a few counter sources easily. Also, this pretty much sums up how Europe feels

Trying to expel the legacy of the often referenced but rarely mentioned former president George Bush, Obama said sorry for recent US "arrogance" and "derision" towards European allies.

Bush was, for lack of a better word, a cunt as far as Europe is concerned. All he ever did was threaten us and abuse us.

Sarkozy is an interesting fellow, its hard to pin down what he feels on anything from one minute to the next. Still his opinion doesn't reflect that of Europe and nor does the reaction to the Michelle/Queen or the dvd incident.

Obama is way more popular in the rest of the world than any American politician has been in a long time, largely because liberal in the USA is something more like centre to the rest of the world. Plus he is ridiculously charasmatic and a great orator.

I am in London right now, and was in Paris last week. You could not be more wrong if you tried; Obama is insanely popular here. It almost frightens me, because the hopes are so high that it's inevitable everyone will be disappointed. Whatever article you quoted is missing the forest for the trees.

On topic, this is one of the most ridiculous threads I've seen in ages. Let's assume for a minute that a state would actually leave the US, even though we all know this would not happen. Well - how would that improve things in any way? Does anyone really believe that the government of, say, the Republic of Texas would behave any differently from the current US government? My state government (Maryland) is just like the federal one on a smaller scale, with plenty of deficit spending, pork-barrell deals, and all the like. I fail to see how seceding solves any problems, and this doesn't even get into all the economic problems that would come from moving out of a vast integrated national market and into a small one, likely complete with tarriff barriers.

Also, the notion that the Civil War was about "states rights" is a joke. What were those rights the states were fighting for? The right to own slaves. Not exactly the greatest model to emulate.

Depends on the region.  His Africa, Israeli and Kosovo ratings are likely lower.

Amusingly Kosovo named a street after him.

It was already named for someone else.

Who did they think Bush was better then.

This is funny....

Mother Theresa.

Well, if Texas wants to secede from the Union, then I'm all for it. If that is what they want to do. But here's a couple of things that needs to happen as well as a result. One, they get no more Federal funding from the US government to help them out with disaster repair from Hurricane Gustave or any other hurricane that comes along in the future. Secondly, they get no help whatsoever from the US military in regards to law enforcement or protection from the Mexican Drug Cartel War or from Mexicans spilling into their lands.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

Texas is the world's 12th largest economy so they don't need extra help.  They are fiscally sound now while the rest of the country is hurting.  Also, you seem to forget that nearly everyone in TX owns a gun and uses it on a regular basis.  They would encourage the Mexicans to come to their towns illegally if you catch my drift.  Texas has the capability of taking care of itself.  It was a republic before it joined to Union so it has experience as a lone nation.  BTW, DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS

Oh god! Is it christmas already? Otherwise why have you gifted upon me this thread? It must be Christmas.

P.S. Children, THIS is why you don't cheat in history class. That way you don't get your asses handed to you a 2nd time.

Sigh.

Think of what you just said. Texas is a functioning economy because it is part of the Unites States. You're avoiding so many factors in maintaining an independent country it isn't even amusing.

I was quite serious in my last post, take a government class. Succeeding from the Union and having "tea party's" (Forget that the original event was due to lack of representation, but whatever) is a, quite frankly, ludicrous notion. There is a reason the only entity promoting this radical movement is Fox News.
