Series creator said they would like to make a sequel to Valkyria Chronicles and it has an anime, so I would say no.

Fixed. SEGA themselves never said they wanted to make a sequal.

And the anime contract may have already been there.

Who do you expect to say that want to make another VC game? Sega's CEO?

NO! The developers!

Of course they want to make another one. Every developer says that. How many times have we heard devs say they want to make another game in the series, or some such response like that and not get their wish, or it takes 5 years for it to happen. That is why there should be skepticism.

If we could go by quotes like that we would have had Megaman Legends 3 by now.

Well, you do get feedback saying that they can't make a sequel or that they want to move on, etc.

Not always, not alot of the time infact. I don't blame devs for saying they want to make the game, or trying to get some backing by talking about it in public. They have a right to say which games they want to work on. But, the company is not saying this and we really don't know whats going to happen. Its not as if I don't want the game to come out, it is a good game and it does deserve more sales. But I am trying to be realistic here.

valkyria is at 370k

and SO is at 340k

Both have been outsold by No More Heroes, many people's poster child for flop this generation.

Therefore, by the transitive power of software flops, both VC & SO4 must be considered flops.

(That does not mean that any of them are bad games, or that the developer/publisher is not happy with sales numbers.)

j/k by the way

Valkyrie Chronicles I wouldn't consider a flop. It didn't sell well though.

Star Ocean, is a flop. There is no way that Europe is going to give the game 660k worth of sales. Compared to the previous games it didn't do so well. The goal of any series is to increase popularity and make more money. One thing should be stated though, Square could care less how well the game did, they got their money.

95% of gamers don't know they are noobs, the 5% who do won't be noobs for long

I played the demo and thought it was pretty good but it wasn't really a game I was planning on buying soon. I don't think its a flop, give it more time. There are too many other over hyped games that people are buying.

VC did pretty good by my standards. New SRPG IP and all. Not sure if Sega made or lost money however. I'm sure the engine costed quite a bit (they should use it for more games so dev costs shouldn't be as high for future titles I don't think).

SO4 didn't do good.

zis

Valkyria Chronicles did well for a new IP in the SRPG genre (which sells poorly)

SO4 so far is a flop based off the sales of previous games, but i wouldn't be surprised to see SE break even assuming Europe sales end up 150k +
