Forums - Nintendo - Wii games: New standard price?

We know that most Wii games are at $49.99, recently Madworld had a price cut and most people called it a flop..... now some new Wii games (that are not even released) are getting a cheaper price tag:

The Munchables from 39.99 to 29.99

Klonoa from 39.99 to 29.99

Even Nintendo games like Excitebots 39.99

I haven't seen this on Amazon but I think it's just matter of time. The games that still have the 49.99 price tag are mostly licensed things (Madden, NBA, the new Indy game) or niche titles (Phantom Brave, LKS)  I'm not complaining a cheaper price is always better but it's interesting to see this.

Its a recession, people have lessmoney to spend, price cutting is inevitable. I think also sales have alot do with it - maybe those games aren't selling well, I don't know. I wish all games had cheap price tags.

The Wii has always had some games that came out at a lower price. RE4 for example (although it was a remake of a GC so low development cost). We are seeing it more because publishers are just realizing that lower prices sell more, plus lower prices mean people are less likely to rent or trade it back in, which also means more sales.  More sales mean they can afford to sell it for less, etc...  AAA titles that have lots of gameplay (including addictive replay) time will still be $49 for long periods of time...

Madworld did not have a price cut. Some retailers made promotions (especially in UK, where this is common).

A price cut implies a reduction in retail suggested price which was not the case for Madworld as far as I know.

I think Wii games just have a more flexible pricing structure, and more publishers are taking advantage of it. Mercury meltdown revolution retailed at $20 and that was a year and half ago.

I would be happy with this, but it just seems to be flexibility, like BrainBox said.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Publishers have found out that a game can go platinum at a budget price. Wii gamers love to buy on the cheap. You put up a game for $20-30, and it flies off the shelves, then the retailer orders more. You launch at $50, and many games slowly drip off the shelf. It earns you more revenue per unit, but the slow sales cause the retailer to think twice about ordering more stock, dropping your overall revenues.

That's my take, anyway.

Oh, and I hear Ghostbusters Wii is launching at $40, too. I wonder if that means it's short...
