Microsoft buys games, Sony buys developers. Same end result really, except MS is getting the stuff from the big devs that Sony couldn't afford to buy straight-out.

Although saying they have THE BEST first-party titles is sheer rubbish, seeing as how Nintendo sort-of built a complete empire almost solely on first-party offerings.

sony quality first party developement and considering how many million they bump into it games it shows.

nintendo sells more, but biggest selling games are kart, brain age, nintendogs, and wii fit and wii sport wii play.

goood games in my opinion: kart and brain age.

You missed out on the Zelda series, the Metroid series, the Pokémon series, the other Mario non-Kart titles, the Smash Bros. series, and a variety of others. All of which sell very well in the million-plus range.

oh yeah thats why i removed that part from the original post and just focus on sony first party.

Those were all Nintendo first-party.

Some have been developed by second-party devs, with first-party guidance, and are Nintendo-owned franchises, so they still count as first-party.

Same as some of the alleged "mega-sellers" in the Sony camp.

Any more when i hear Sony's PR burbs and jabs, slanders and stabs I can only picture then listening to this

I mean how did they forget how they were able to defeat the Dreamcast, and how they got to be the former market leader?.

Devs gladly go where the money is flowing like nectar and honey?.and right now the is in the Flowering Fields of Microsoft!

Not in Japan it aint. In fact, without anything to back up that statement, I'd say you are way off with that one...

Oh shit Japan!! The country which accounts for only about less than 15% of total console sales??

Yeah, oh shit Japan. The place where MS have spent an absolute fortune buying 'exclusives', and have almost nothing to show for it. If the market is so insignificant, you have to wonder why MS blew so much cash there, or are you suggesting that their strategy was crap?

^i am not down playing teh importance of teh market

he is just getting his undies in a bunch about me saying sony did this same kinda crap back with teh ps2 and ps2 and now that microsoft is throwing more money around it automatically a bad thing?

puhhhh lease

What are they supposed to do take development teams out on dates and buy them flowers and make out with them in dark theaters? Then they would get exclusives out of pure love with no money needed?

It is called synergy... getting a foot hold in Japan helps build credibility and has hurt the PS3 globally with the loss of Japanese exclusives.

If the 360 had never been released and promoted in Japan, would FFXIII, Devil may cry, street fighter, lost planet etc etc etc have been released on the 360? Possibly not. That would have hurt the 360 sales the wolrd over not just in Japan.

You list 3 Capcom games there. Capcom were very proactive with the 360, didnt need to be paid off, and it has worked out well for them. FF XIII? Very early days there.. Let's see shall we? Now, you failed to mention the long list of failures. Where to start? Star Ocean 4? Foothold in Japan? Hardware and software is getting owned. A funny thing. I popped into my local Bic Camera the other day. Maybe first time in a month. All the standard 360 software racks had been replaced with fancy looking MS funded green plastic illuminated casing! Just as well MS know how best to impress Japanese gamers!

@ hanafuda

you wouldnt call 1 million consoles a foothold in Japan then?

oh...and you completely missed my point.......

In relation to the amount of money they have thrown at it? Quite frankly, no.
