Right now since the ps2 is cheap, I can get both MGS collection and SotC for one ps3 game.

That's a big factor right there...

If it's BC you're looking for, here's an easy way to tell - if you don't see 4 USB ports.. it's not BC...

i think ps3 is much better choice especially if u have HD TV
much better games, bluray and Home

if games... he can buy more quality games for a price of 1 ps3 games

true if you have HD TV it is much a better choice
