What the hell Ail?

Wii sales, week ending 7th february to week ending 28th february: 1514K (378K average)

Week ending 7th match to 28th march: 1444K (361K average)

... Where are your sales from?

I picked every number from here and had excell do the average....

Difference was the 28th february number was listed as march 1st on the VGChartz...

So my february had 1 less week and my March had one more...

Well, you should check that. It's the week ending 1st march, that's 25th feb to 1st march - definitely a February week.

And it completely flaws up your argument (unfortunately).

Doesn't flaw the fact that every month the 2008-2009 difference gets smaller and that baring some huge unknown Q2 2009 will come a lot lower than Q2 2008 for the Wii.

I agree with Soriku here, Oyvoyv~ is way too serious about everything. I wouldn't want to be in his place, but that's just me.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

I can joke about almost anything, but I really depise incorrect facts. I also hate it when people say "ZOMG OWNED OP!", especially when it comes from people I know as somewhat intellectual, and for a minor issue.

I'm very serious about misinformation and unncecessary rudeness (I would be about yours too, but it's just you, so I don't care (I'm kidding, I'm kidding)

The Wii sales may appear to be slowing down, but we're seeing a what? 10% drop from month to month? This happens all the time.

There's far from enough evidence to support it dropping (and using YoY to prove this is... Pretty odd).

I'm not gonna rule out the chance of Wii dropping like a rock, but there's far from enough evidence to prove it.

The sales aren't down in Q1, they will be in Q2, this thread was just 3 months early lol. ( I think you will have Q1 2008 = Q2 2009 and Q2 2008 = Q1 2009).

There's nothing announced that could match the Boost Mk Wii got in 2008 and Nintendo can't really release more Wii to the retailers and hope to have a 720k week like they did in 2008.

Average worldwide weekly sales( keeping January out as wii had stock issues and it was still the follow off the holydays) .

February 2009 :

Wii : 422k

Xbox 360 :200k

PS3 : 144k

March 2009 :

Wii : 354k

Xbox360 : 190k

PS3 : 188k

April 2009 (only 1 week) :

Wii : 295k

Xbox360 : 149k

PS3 : 143k

March was down compared to February for the Wii but not for HD consoles ( 360 slightly down, PS3 up).

So far April is down for all 3.

For reference :

April 2008

Wii : 365k average

Xbox360 : 114k

PS3 : 150k

If things don't change I'm expecting Xbox360 to be up 20% compared to 2008, PS3 to be down 10% and Wii to be down 20%.

Generally speaking Wii will most likely be down 25-30% in Q2 2009 compared to Q2 2008.

For the year or for Q2?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Q2.

It's too early to tell how the year will do.

My expectation is that first 6 months of 2009 = first 6 months of 2008.

We need to wait what Nintendo announces for the rest of the year and see how well Wii Sport Resort does before we have an idea on how well the Wii will do for the holydays.

If I had to make a guess now I would say 2009 Wii sales will be down 5-10% compared to 2008....But it's really a wild guess...

That's pretty plausible (I thought your minus 20% for the year rather than just for the 2nd quarter).

I kinda doubt it still though. It's up 1800K as of now. For 2008 Q1 + Q2 to tie 2009 Q1 + Q2, it would have to sell just 3.3M. That's 253K/week.

In the past 52 weeks, the lowest week the Wii has ever seen is 260K.

There's margin, Q2 2008 had weeks at 740k, 574k, 513k.

Might be off by a few 100ks in the end...

When Wii demand does drop, it won't drop off of a cliff (unless there's some catastrophic event like a nuclear war). The drop will be much smoother, and won't get noticed when looking at simple week-on-week comparisons.

Enough with the Wii drama people, especially in Japan! In fact, after the release of DQX and MH3 I think Wii is going to attract the most Japan-centric support, even away from the mighty DS.

Western markets are way too involved into violence, FPS and shooting in general to allow that to happen, as the Wii obviously lacks the qualities to become the definitive FPS/shooter platform (market's opinion - not mine).

Just wait until MH3 launches and witness the Wii rejuvenation in Japan. Like a tsunami, folks.
