What was wrong with Black Hawk Down!? Its a technical marvel!

to me, it seemed like a very bad american propoganda film, i didnt seem to have much more to it than that, i can see why patriotic americans liked it, but i dont see its appeal to anyone else, thats just my opinion though,

lol this would be the 3rd argument i got into with you today and i dont want to       *runs away*

I know it's not nice for me to say and very Un-PC, but Somalia is not my favorite country by quite some way. Horrible place from what I know.

However, factions within the country (cough Government cough cough) should be viewed as dangerous. I think Miss Gibbons will vouch for this. They have shown high levels of intolerance in the past and have done some shady stuff.

But that said, it is unfair to generalise them as terrorists. I think cougarman may be Somalian (?) and cougarman is a lovely person. So I think saying somalis are terrorists in general is unfair. It would be more fair to address the problem groups. In this case the government. You wouldn't say Afgans are terrorists, Al-quieda are.

But I agree with the basic principle of your post, Americans should not stand for it. Action should be taken.

I dunno, I try not to get involved in this kind of stuff to be honest.

But I have issues with the word terrorism being used anyway. One persons terrorist is another freedom fighter and that lol. I think it is a word Bush coined to take away those pesky civil liberties. I think violent fanatics would be more apt.

... Sorry, that was like 80% off topic lol

I was surprised when I heard that (the snipers) they shot them. I thought for sure the Somali pirates would let the guy go. Are they idiots?

are you talking about the pirates.almost everybody involved was stupid. the crew was going across somalia without weapons(dumb) the (4)pirates attacked a american boat, that had 20 people on board.

but i dont think they should treat them as terrorists, but they should make boats carry guns with them.

they aren't terrorists. They're pirates. They are doing it for booty.

They have held Captain Richard Phillips captive, threaten Congressman, held ships on the high seas impeding int'l trade in the Gulf of Aden, and have promised retaliations.

Personally, I would have them tried as terrorists and have the ROE against them be take captives or shoot on sight if the forces are at risk.  These guys are strict Wahabis and are terrorists.  Anyone remember Black Hawk Down?

the pirates are terrorists you mean? not all somalis?

black hawk down was one of the worst films ive ever seen in my life

@Bold,

I really hope that is what he meant =P

And I don't think we need to treat pirates quite like terrorist because of the difference in motivations and tactics.  I think we should take a look back in history at how piracy was eventually dealt with the last time it was a problem. In short we should deal with it firmly and without hesitation, and without PC BS.

As an interesting side-note apparently there are reports that the Somali pirates holding phillips were out of ammo and were trying to trade the captain for their release.  It seems some folks are a bit upset that "the Americans" wouldn't accept this offer.  I would have preferred the pirates to surrender and face a court of law, but I'm not exactly upset with how things turned out either.  They knew the risks of engaging in piracy and I simply don't feel sorry for them at all.

The government of Somalia isn't the problem, its the lack of government.

Oh absolutely.  It is a hellhole of a place, unfortunately.

Since when did pirates become terrorists? I think they are doing this for the money and the loot, not because they are trying to terrorize U.S. citizens.

Just because someone does something you don't like doesn't mean they are a terrorist.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson
