Forums - Gaming - PS3 closed gap on 360 in US last month, says Pachter

Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter has predicted that, despite another massive month for Wii in the US in March, PS3 significantly closed its gap on 360 compared to February.

The analyst guessed today that 800,000 Wii, 400,000 360, and 350,000 PS3 consoles were sold in America last month.

PS3 was soundly beaten by 360 in February, selling 276,000 units to the Microsoft console's 391,000.

"Our console sell-through forecasts reflect our belief supply and demand for Wii hardware are finally in balance, with most of the upside in unit sales attributable to growing demand for the Xbox 360 and PS3," Pachter said in a note this afternoon.

By comparison, EEDAR predicted today that 900,000 Wiis, 395,000 360s and 300,000 PS3 were sold in the US last month.

March NPD figures will release on Thursday.

wtf

You should be beaten, burned to ashes then someone should throw your ashes from a plane

Even if this turns out to be true (I mean it is Pachter. A random guy on the internet is more credible.) The PS3 did not close anything. The gap is widen by 50k units. It is widen more slowly, but it is still widen though.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

LMAO

I hate to be a pessimist but, "closing the gap" for one month is not something to be declaring proudly. Right now they need to completely close the gap, then start out selling it and then manage to do that for about 3 years. Even at that point I'm not sure it matters anymore.

I guess you can't comprehend, so I'll try to put it in laymans terms.

The gap closed between month-over-month sales.  The gap last month was roughly 115,000 units.  This month, it's 50,000 units.  I'd say they closed the month-over-month sales gap by 65,000 units to 50,0000 units.

and I quote:

PS3 significantly closed its gap on 360 compared to February.

I'll be here all week.

True...which might be why it's something SONY isn't declaring proudly.  This is Pachter afterall.

I believe this to be true. 400,000 X360, and 350,000 PS3. It's in line with vgc numbers, the gap is getting very small.

But why? I just don't understand what has given PS3 a boost (please don't come dragging with Killzone).

and people think that sony will do a price cut ???

i mean its selling really well for a 400 $ console,,, it might not surpass the 360 but it might be selling now and making a small profit at last, and sony wont throw that away at this time

Possible reasons?

1.  While there has been no price cut, there have been a lot of PS3 promotion in the past month, such as $50 gift cards at many retailers, and the Target 2-free game bundles.

2.  RE5 may have convinced many PS2 owners that it was time to upgrade.

3. Tax rebate time.  Many people are getting big tax rebates and buying gifts for themselves.  PS3 buyers tend to be older, so they are the ones getting rebates.

4. More PS3 advertising this month, related to the game that you do not want mentioned.
