Forums - Gaming - Namco Website: Beautiful Katamari for Wii and PS3

What is Katamari all about, the only vid i've ever seen of it was just a ball rolling around picking up random objects to become a bigger ball -- or am i thinking about the wrong thing, because it didn't look fun at all

Yeah, that's the game in a nutshell.

I suggest you try it before you write it off. You'd be surprised how addictively gleeful rolling up everything in your path can be.

I wonder if it'll just use a PS2 engine...

Who cares? Katamari has never been about graphics, anyway.

As to the control issue, I don't really see what would have been the big challenge with moving to Wiimote from dual thumbstick. Just have the Nunchuck thumbstick define the direction of force and use the Wiimote to change direction. The same controls that MP3 seems to have set the standard for.

And hells yeah this announcement has me pumped.

How dare you suggest a game would not be ruined by being forced into the Wii's graphics!

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Maybe Namco told Sony if they sold a certain amount of consoles by xxxx they would bring the game to the PS3.

Or, Maybe Sony had a little "sit and chat" with Namco and made them "see the light"... Interesting that all these announcements come all at once. Maybe Microsoft didn't step up to the financial plate like they were expecting... Who knows...

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

Great! I love Katamari games. I can't wait. Oh, also, this is a budget release on the 360 ($40) so count on $30 for the Wii!

Question? Has Namco always had the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 listed on their website for this game and people have just noticed now or has the site only listed Beautiful Katamari for the Xbox 360 or the Xbox 360 and the Wii?

Namco could have listed all the platforms that they were developing the game for and then decided not to develop the PS3 version of the game. It happens. But any way, we will all have to take a wait and see approach. This title could end up being Vapor Ware for the PS3.

However, the fanbase of the Xbox 360 in Japan is nonexistent and to make a profit or break even Namco will have to develop the HD version of Beautiful Katamari for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. Together those platforms have about a 1.7 million consumers in Japan and about 15 million consumers worldwide. That's reason enough to justify a PS3 version of the game.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

I've heard the rumors too that BKwould come to both Xbox360 and Wii and the PS3 kept getting left out... I don't see anything on the website that states the game will be on anything but XBox360. I've heard rumors of a different verision for the wii but never has this been confirmed, sucks too because it's more of a casaul game...

looks like from Wikipedia that today it did list all 3 consoles but it seems to have gone back to just Xbox360... very strange...

They're probably waiting to announce them in a press release. Definitely strange though that they removed the consoles from the list.

It wouldn't be the first time that some web guy updated the web site before the rest of marketing got to do their precious press release.

At least that had better be what's going on here.  >:(
