Forums - Sales - Does Nintendo have something bigger than Wii Sports Resort for X-Mas 2009?

We'll probably know come E3, but I expect they'll shoot for a 'core' and a 'casual' like they did last holiday season, except the 'core' title was Animal Crossing (and wasn't different enough to interest anyone).

This year we may be looking at Pikmin 3 and Wii Fit Plus as holiday releases. A Wii Fit with MW+ would make a lot of sense considering how well they could track motions (similar to EA's Sport Active) to determine how well you're doing exercises that don't fit the balance board. It would naturally sell millions.

For myself, I'd love a Wii Fit Plus, and as long as I also get Red Steel 2, that looooong promised Kirby game and (crosses fingers) a Jedi Knight game with WM+ (and great online) then I'll be a very happy camper.

Ehm, please enlighten me about the amazing HD line-up for 2009 I seem to be missing here. Almost everything I'm looking forward to is almost certainly postponed until 2010. Beyond Good & Evil 2, Splinter Cell, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2, Gran Turismo 5, God of War 3, Final Fantasy 13...all 2010.

So we have this year: Bioshock 2, Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2 (which will probably be on Wii as well)? Wow, that does indeed kick the Wii in the butt...

Final Fantasy XIII has been comfirmed for 2009 in Japan and Sony has suggested that God of War III will come out this year. Tales of Graces, which people keep mentioning in there 2009 lists, on the other hand has been comfirmed for early 2010 in Japan.

I prefer the Wii over the 360, since I prefer to play the multi-platform games on the PS3, but when it come's to quality title's it's obvious that the HD consoles have much better games. Some will probably prefer the The fast and the Furious (read: Wii Fit) over the Godfather, but you can't say with a straight face that it is a better movie.

I would also like add some of those title's to your 2009 list

Bayonetta (fall), Ratchet & Clank 5 (fall), Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (fall), Tales of Vesperia's (autumn) Director's Cut, Quantum Theory (maybe 2010), End of Eternity (fall), Atelier Rorona (summer), King of Fighters (summer), Blazblue (summer), Bionic Commando (summer)

And let's not forget about Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter IV, Killzone 2, Halo Wars, Yakuza 3, Demon's Soul, Star Ocean, Flower, Sega Mega Drive Collection which are also 2009 title's. The Wii did get Madworld though, which probably would have ended in the braid or flower category if it had been released on the PS3 or 360.

We will probably also see some small things from SCEJ like Siren last year and a mainstream game from rare.

I think your definition of "casual" is a bit odd. That's not what most people mean when they use the word. Multiplayer games and accessible games have always been around, but what sets the recent casual games apart from them is their shallowness. Typical casual games are those which don't even try to introduce you into a strange world, an atmosphere, a story - they just say: "Hello. Let's make a cake!" or "Hello. Catch the penguins!" or "Hello. How many candles can you blow out in 1 minute?". Stuff like that is probably what most of us mean when we use the term.

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

FFXIII hasn't been confirmed for 2009 at all. With DQ9 realeasing this year it's still a better guess that it won't release before April 1st anywhere.

I was under the impression that this thread was about big sellers, which none of the games on your list are. If you're talking about the quality of the titles and include Japan (which you do by including Vesperia/Yakuza for example) you might want to include Muramasa, Kizuna, Fragile, Arc Rise Fantasia, Monster Hunter 3, Tales of Graces (Winter can still be 2009), Silent Hill, Resident Evil: DSC, Dead Space: Extraction etc.

Indeed with StreetFighter 4, Resident Evil 5 and Killzone 2 released there are some major HD games in 2009, but it doesn't really shatter Wii's line-up (as Montana said) at all.

And no, it's not obvious at all that the HD library is better. It depends on one single thing: taste.

wishful thinking, the last trailer of FFXIII sayd 2009 and S-E just comfirmed (again) that the game will come out during the winter of 2009. FFvsXIII will be there big title for next fiscal year.

I'm not to sure if Silent Hill, Resident Evil: DSC and Dead Space: Extraction will quality title's. SH is being made by a mediocre devoloper, RE DSC is a sequel of a mediocre spin-off and Dead Space doesn't look good at all.

And It's obvious, because the HD consoles get every month 80%+ title's while the Wii doesn't even have 30 of those title's after 2,5 years.

Wishful thinking? I bought a 360 because I could play Final Fantasy on it. Before that I would have bought a PS3, so as far as I'm concerned the game is here asap.

Climax is NOT a mediocre developer btw, but you ok. Your list contains late PS3 ports and Quantum Theory which has generic written all over it, so I don't really get where you're going telling me RE, DS and SH might turn out crappy.

And again, using metacritic doesn't prove anything. It's about your taste. My favorite game this gen is Fire Emblem which scored under 80%. If you like Mario you need a Wii, if you like Gears you need a 360, if you like MGS4 you need a PS3. Simple as that.

wii fit plus.

nothing else has a hope at being as big as them apart from wii play 2.

i expect them to have several multi million selling games for the core this year but nothing as big as those 2 titles

We'll know if Nintendo have anything as big as Wii Sports Resort for Christmas 2009 at E3. I doubt they'll have something bigger than WSR, but I do expect a Zelda Wii trailer with "2010" as a release date, though that could quite easily be delayed.
It's been confirmed to be in development numerous times, as far back as early 07-Miyamoto said that TP was the last Zelda in that form, and the next Zelda was being developed for the Wii and would change the series massively. Anyone remember that or have a link for it?

With that in mind, if it is a revamp of the series, 2011 for Zelda might be more realistic. Time will tell. I'm just going to continue to look forward to E3, and will hope it isn't soul crushingly disappointing =P E3 is reverting to it's traditional format (mostly) and at E306 we got Metroid Prime 3, Red Steel, Wii Sports, Wii Music, Brawl, Galaxy and Zelda:TP confirmed for Wii. I don't expect something quite as monumental as that, but I do think 3 'big' core games will be announced, 2 for 09, and Zelda for 2010. Rambling over. For now.
