Forums - Sales - Does Nintendo have something bigger than Wii Sports Resort for X-Mas 2009?

Lastly, Japan does need more core games. It has had enough casual games as is, besides WSR is coming up. Neglecting a huge part of the potential buyers would be idiotic and could cost them a high price if by any chance there's another casual console being released that takes interest of the Wii away. Build up a huge core and casual fanbase and by next gen they will have a huge following and an assured lead.

This is why they are making WSR. For the people who bought Wii for Wii Sports.

Revelation:

THE WII SPORTS AUDIENCE IS THE NEW NINTENDO CORE!

You made it sound like if the Wii series would simply sell for random people, who have no interest in them.

But they ARE acting like core gamers. After they played with Wii Sports, they bought Wii Play. And Mario Kart Wii. And Wii Fit. And they will buy Wii Sports resort.

@ Montana: Can't the Wii have it's best year while the other's do too? No one said anything about being the best console of 2010.

Usually when someone says "the year of the ______," it's because it's the year of that thing and that thing only. Sort of like how the year of the dragon is not also the year of the monkey, ox, etc.

Ok well I didn't mean it like that, I meant that it would be Nintendo's best year software wise for Wii

No problem. I'm actually looking forward to 2010 as well. I just don't want any definitive statements going down without a fight.

If it were sales wise, every year would be the year of the Wii (except 2006 and 2007, the 360 might have had a slight software lead in that year). And while Tres said going by first party games, you just said it would be the year of the Wii with no strings attached.

By the way, we're not going by sales. If we were doing that, 2006 would be the year of the Wii followed by 2008.

I meant by first party games since, like I said, I didn't notice he said year of the Wii in general. I thought he said year of 1st party games from Nintendo.

If people are buying the Wii the most then that means most people have the most interest in it...and I'd say the general opinion is that the Wii > other consoles because of that.

Year of Nintendo first party games? I'd still disagree. 2007 saw the height of Nintendo's software releases this generation and they gave us, no, gifted us with Super Mario Galaxy to top it off. And if you're saying that the Wii library is better than the HD consoles because the Wii sells more, than you and I both know why that's wrong and I don't think I should have to tell you why. And if that's not what you meant, learn to write clearly.

SMG was easily better than TP but that's subjective I guess.. Looking at sales though I'm right :P

Besides the next Mario will only improve on Galaxy and the next Zelda will make gamers orgasm the world over

I'm not sure how the topic change from " Does Nintendo have something bigger than Wii Sports Resort for X-Mas 2009" to "Does Nintendo have a good lineup for 2009?"

On the new topic, my first reply would also apply.

WSR for the summer and Wii Fit Plus for the holidays. Since two big titles are required for holidays, I'll throw in Kirby Wii as well.

Expansions of the two biggest Nintendo first party titles this gen along with an established character in Kirby. It looks solid to me.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

im not getting my hopes up

nintendo kinda sucked last holiday and they didnt care

last holiday i bought fable 2, fallout 3, gears 2, L4D, Midnight Club LA and a few others

no wii games . . .

wouldve if there were any i didnt have already

its ok tho, its hard buying for multi systems at xmas time, if nintendo wants to make no holiday games (animal crossing? wii music?) then that makes it easier.

i'll just buy punchout, resort, and a possible wii fit plus this year, and be done with it ;)

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Wii Friend Code: 4094-4604-1880-6889

well, I wonder what monolifht is doing, they gave us baten kaitos games, Does anybody have a clue what they are doing?

Wii Sports Resort didn't come out of nowhere. We've known about it since E3 2008. Here's an article from 9 months ago talking about it. And now we're seeing Wii Sports Resort to release in Japan only in July, a year after this article was written. That time span isn't comparable to the one we're talking about here. Plus, we've known about Wii Music and seen beta models for it since 2006, and I don't think Animal Crossing required much development effort. At least not as much as a full scale Zelda game.

Of course Nintendo games aren't the only good games on the Wii anymore. Nintendo barely releases any good games, so they have to be coming from somewhere. The Wii lineup may not be bad (plenty of people could be happy with it), but it's very disappointing next to the HD lineups, which by all means shouldn't beat the Wii's library considering the lower userbases and higher development costs. Most HD owners have so many game releases flying at them that they can't think straight.

And I know it's 3 in the morning, but next time use commas. You confused the crap out of me with that last line.

Ehm, please enlighten me about the amazing HD line-up for 2009 I seem to be missing here. Almost everything I'm looking forward to is almost certainly postponed until 2010. Beyond Good & Evil 2, Splinter Cell, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2, Gran Turismo 5, God of War 3, Final Fantasy 13...all 2010.

So we have this year: Bioshock 2, Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2 (which will probably be on Wii as well)? Wow, that does indeed kick the Wii in the butt...
