Forums - Sony - Will Monster Hunter be on PS3?

No because MH is a Japanese oriented game, and Capcom gives the HD consoles games that can do well both in Japan and the West. They dont take any risks at all, that's why you won't be seeing games like Sengoku Basara or Monster Hunter for the HD consoles. On the other hand Wii has a huge Japanese userbase, it's easier to develop for and cheaper. So Wii is the only way to go, if we ignore PS2 of course. MH is never going to happen in Japan for PS3, they have already cancelled the project and the fanbase will be built on the Wii. On the other hand Wii will not get any other big franchise from Capcom, so dont feel too bad.

that's a valid reasonalble point :D

I simply cannot understand why this thread has stretched so long. The console versions have never been big so Capcom was not going to spend a huge amount of money on a HD version when the consoles are doing so badly.

More importantly, Wii -> PSP is much easier and cheaper then HD console -> PSP

Capcom wants to grow the series in the West and needs a console version for that, because in the West consoles still own handhelds in terms of main series appeal. The Wii version isnt some afterthought, it's a smart move to make the series grow outside of Japan. In Japan itself a PSP version would have been sufficient.

So where exactly is the DS version of this game? Twice the user base of the PSP, soon to be three times the size? Cheaper to develop on than either the Wii or the PSP? Seems like a missed opportunity to me.

Well, the development kit is only a tiny fraction compared to the real development cost, which would be to make Monster Hunter in HD. So don't count on it.

The thread could have ended here
