  • They are misunderstood. They defend their console of choice with grace, honour and respect. They always seek to maintain the reputation of their console and always interact with their fellow gamer.

I think you have a different definition of "troll" than most of us.

To me, a troll is not someone who is defending their console.  A troll is someone who attacks another console.  Most of the time, a troll doesn't even own the console they are talking about.  They usually don't have facts, and only speak in tired cliches.

Their only objective is to try and upset other posters.

I would say this is the case for 60% of them but the 40% is out to create discussions,

People starting legitimate discussion are not trolls.

Join the Prediction League http://www.vgchartz.com/predictions

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

  • They bring life to the forums, their threads tend to be controversial which creates debate. Which leads to community participation. These threads tend to create huge discussion unfortunately some get out of hand but most have a satisfactory conclusion.

You can create threads with discussion without being stupid about it. Post a valid question, and you will see valid responses. Troll threads usually end up discussing something we have already discussed many times over.

  • They are misunderstood. They defend their console of choice with grace, honour and respect. They always seek to maintain the reputation of their console and always interact with their fellow gamer.

Grace, honour and respect? Trolls are dishonouring every honest gamer, by staying blind to reality and flaws in their console of choice. They may have good intentions, but being ignorant about their own case only helps the opposition, and not themselfs.

  • They bring entertainment to the forums. As outrageous as their predictions or posts maybe one cannot fault them for the entertainment they bring.

Entertainment? If you consider a retarded kid trying to read a book entertaining, then yes... I don't.

  • Their controversial threads require us to prove them wrong, they challenge the community to outsmart them, which is not easy

Trolls are the scum of the community, if you are smart then you are most likely not trolling, perhaps clever flaming, but no more.

This forum is at its best when there are no trolls around. It means there is room for having fun without resorting to degrading comments.

To me, the only trolls are the ones that post one-sentence inflammatory posts. I did not found DmeisterJ, Crazzyman or Leo-J trolls for instance because outlandish or flat out wrong their claims where, they at least stuck to it believing in it.

Now if someone would go in that same Crazzyman thread replying "Lol, not true PS3 is the deadzorrs" then yes, that is trolling. It would also be trolling the moment crazzyman would reply in that thread to someone in a similair vain... then he would be troll. Catch me drift?

If I'd be a mod I'd loosen the string a little though. Some trolls are to funny to get banned.

There is more than one type of troll.

For the most part a troll is someone who starts trouble where they know they are starting trouble. Thus is doing it more for getting a rise out of people than actually making a point.

Fortunately, the majority of trolls on this site are pretty tame. Which is one of the reasons why I like being here.
